Today I got the last section of the Land Rover chassis done! This is one job I don't want to again in a hurry!

So far I think i have gone through

0.5 litre bottle of Jenolite (just started a 2nd)
1 small can of zinc primer
1.5 litre of chassis black
.5 litre of etch primer
Several cheap paint brushes from Wilkos
A couple bottles of white spirit for degreasing
Several old rags
Quite a few pairs of disposable gloves

Replaced all the bolts that hold the mud flaps to the chassis and the ones that hold the mud flaps to the brackets with stainless.Still got a few more to replace

Lots of coffee and nibbles
Regards.

Got some waxoyle stuff onto the some of the Landy chassis I could not get to when painting

Replaced the towbar with a Dixon and Bate adjustable hitch

Replaced the rear x-member Torx bolts with some stainless ones from DefenderBits . This was a struggle as some of them were rusted in place, had to grind the heads off a couple and drill one out and re-tap.

Refitted the front passenger side mud flap and replaced the standard bolts/rivets with some stainless ones.

And gave the x-member a coating of Black spray paint
Regards.

Saw an old Mercedes Benz 4X4 thing at the hosp today, looked like a very large LWB Landy, it was lifted and I reckon it could have driven over a Ka without slowing down, and when I got home a rather spruced up Reliant Scimitar blatted past me growling away. It always cheers me up when something different goes by.

Thats what I came up with after a bit of searching but this one looked about circa 1980 and had a two seater cab and a pick up rear end, to be honest it looked like a banged up old farm hack with a roll of chicken wire and a spade in the back, but this was in Cambridge so someone may have spent £££ getting it to look like that!

Back in the day, my mum managed to seize the engine of a new (old tatty second hand) citroen because she did not know what the red light was for (true!). My dad took sorted out the pistons and gave my mum the head, a large sheet of glass and some grinding paste and told her to get on with it - it took her about a week.
It was one with the hydraulic suspension and a few years later he stripped out about what looked like 50 metres of copper pipe and replaced it all, made a tool to take out the four hydraulic ball things and replaced them, the car promptly failed its MOT on rust issues, such is life.

http://www.mod-sales.com/direct/vehicle ... 13/EPS.htm How about one of these Gadgetboy? something a little different. (appologies to Neil in advance I am in no way saying that the above is better than a Lada and I'm not trying to suggest that we should all run out and buy one).

1.4l diesel, rear wheel drive but not on my wish list. The same site had a few months back a bullet proof jag with bullet proof non deflatable tyres, strobe lights front and rear and a siren which "whoops and wails" (I kid you not) and an internal intercom so you could talk to the driver from behind the glass, all for about £12 grand. The sort of thing visiting dignitaries are ferried around in. It was also getting rid of a load of Landy's dating from 1980 to 95 - £1000 to £5000 but they seem to have all gone. (same disclaimer anyone who values a Defender over a Niva needs a firm talking to) I had a hankering over the "whoop and wail sirens" though.
