Today returned from a 3 night stay in Leeds (Travel Lodge - No aircon, and sweating like a ****** at night cos it was too hot despite doing a very good impression of a starfish on the bed!)

Did some more painting.

Now chilling before work tomorrow.
Regards.

Yesterday picked up a Viper style bumper for an MX5

Today, built the last flat pack wardrobe, put up the last few bits of coving, fitted some laminate flooring and put the wardrobe onto the laminate flooring.

Attached the doors and adjusted the hinges, fitted the handles and built 3 flat pack drawers.

The pile for the tip is growing nicely.
Regards.

Goodness, that must have made you jump!

Today I mostly...fixed a friend's microwave which decided that it had enough of life last night.

Upon dismantling it I discovered that the internal 15A time delay fuse had popped, the 13A fuse in the socket had popped, and the 30A breaker had tripped. I also discovered that one of the door switches was welded closed.

Discharged and connected a shorting lead across the cap in there (as I quite like the whole being alive thing and know full well how dangerous these things can be), got the switch out, dismantled it, separated and cleaned the contacts and reassembled. Took some resistance readings which all make sense, checked all the wiring, found no faults, replaced the fuses and reassembled it...has worked perfectly since.

I know that the user has a terrible tendency of stopping it by opening the door (looks like the tiny microswitches are in series with the mains supply), so that may well have done in the switches which I very much doubt are really up to breaking a load like that. Not sure if it's set up in such a way that having one switch open and one closed might result in fuse blowing (safety cutout?) because it would leave it in an indeterminate position with regards to the door condition. Either that, or there's an intermittent fault in there somewhere...will have to wait and see how it goes.

...Of course the sucker's only a couple of months out of warranty!

...This evening it's been the turn of the upstairs bathroom's cistern playing up.

Have come to the conclusion that these modern plastic Torbeck valves are typically modern tosh. Have cleaned it and reassembled everything three times now and it's still playing up and refusing to fill properly.

Will do some more detective work tomorrow and see if I can kick it into submission!

Fool! ... that was the wiring for the intergalactic fusion drive safety circuit!

You'll regret that on re-entry! :D

Had to make a bootable floppy to update the firmware on a Compaq DL380G2 server after having the mainboard replaced.
I can't think of the last time I had to make one!

Helped my friend replace the plastic front bumper brackets on his Jag XJ8 after a very minor scuff a few weeks ago (they're just plastic hollow things designed to shatter if you even look at them wrong from the look of them), and while I was out there adjusted the throttle cable and kick down cable on the Saab. Neither of them looked like they'd ever been touched and there was quite a bit of slop in both.

Oh, and then was lazy and went out and got Chinese take out as I couldn't be bothered to cook! Well, I needed to take it for a test run, didn't I?
