Today I mostly .....
Re: Today I mostly .....
Today I collected a custom made PVC cover for the boat. Three lashing eyes either side, two up front and couple on the rear.
Hopefully that will stop rain filling up the boat. Before I put the cover on, I removed 30L of water.

Don't have any photos of the weekend's progress I'm afraid (well, I do - they're on my camera however, which I've left at work..oops).
Bike completely and utterly stripped down (save for removal of the front forks - because the handlebars ain't even vaguely interested in shifting - have got in far enough to clean out and re-lubricate the bearings at top and bottom though). Even though I did have to play the "hunt the ball bearing game" at one point when several escaped.
Discovered that the play in the crank bearings is actually less of a problem than expected as the bearing is adjustable. Suffice to say, after several decades, the grease wasn't really behaving like grease any more. Whole lot has been cleaned and will be thoroughly re-greased when it's re-assembled. Frame has been rubbed down, given several primer coats and the first top coat. Will be flatting that back, re-coating several times over, then applying the additional colour areas, then giving the thing several laquer coats as well. Will need to speak to someone who does vehicle vinyls or something like that with regards to getting the original decals recreated.
Looks horrible, patchy and flat at the moment - but it's only the first coat, so that's to be expected. I may have underestimated how much paint I needed as well, as I ran out 80% of the way through!
Never going to look perfect, but should be able to make it at least presentable from a distance I hope.
EDIT: Also spent a good portion of the weekend trying to find my way around my new phone. Smartphones are interesting, and downright frighteningly powerful from the perspective of someone who's most at home messing around with an Amiga 1200 or Acorn A5000...The idea of something with 1.2GHz dual core processors and 512Mb of RAM that fits in the palm of my hand does rather make my head spin.

Jet washed under the chassis of the Land Rover, under the wheel arches, front & rear outriggers and now have lots of muddy mess on the drive.

Order a 32gb SDHC card for my phone and it doesn't appear to work, phone cant format or mount the card.
So tried the card in a SDHC card reader on the laptop and still wont read the card.
Did a google and discovered a hotfix from Microsoft. Tried installing the hotfix but no joy.
So will be sending the card back.
Also tried it on a few PCS and two other Android devices and still no joy

Re: Today I mostly .....
Yesterday, I attacked the Landy with a angle grinder and wire wheel, removed what I could of the rust, degreased and then used some Jenolite to treat the rust.
Once done I then applied some Zinc 182 primer and left it to dry fora 4 hours.
Went to Ikea wardrobe shopping and ate some meatballs in the cafe.
Got home and painted the primer with some Chassis Black. As the weather was rather warm the paint was drying almost as soon as it was on the chassis.
This morning I was back at it. This time painting the rear X-member and finishing off a few bits from yesterday. Painted the fuel filter cover and then ran out of primer....
So need to order some more primer, get some new brushes then I can start again on the chassis.
For the high Impact areas I am thinking of Clear stonechip
Anyway some pics

Re: Today I mostly .....
Today I mostly...
1. Continued the battle with my parents lawn mower, effectively installing a manual throttle control following the governor deciding to depart the land of the living last week.
2. Applied another three coats of paint on my bike. It's actually starting to look almost respectable now. Another coat I think, then the coloured details (couple of yellow stripes and a wider white one on the upright), then do the forks (they're silver rather than green like the rest of it), then another bunch of laquer coats to ensure it's about as durable as I can reasonably make it. Shouldn't look too bad I reckon - there are a few bits where you can still make out some pitting it you look closely - but compared to how it started out it's not bad!

Seat will be getting replaced in due course - I got fed up of it falling over, so that got stuck back on. Handlebars/forks are still in place because they're well and truly stuck to each other and won't come apart. So we'll just have to get inventive with masking tape and cardboard boxes to do the forks. Brush painting those has also sprung to mind.
...Then I have to figure out where the heck all the bits go again!

Re: Today I mostly .....
Got stuff prepared in work for weekend working.(so I will miss some of the Jubilee stuff.....shame
)
The electric company are cutting the power to half the building so one of the PDU's can be replaced.
So, we will be laying some temporary cables from the spare PDU to each server rack. This is a combo of 16amp and 32amp feeds to the racks and swapping the power feeds over.
Fingers crossed the sparks have got the wiring checks correct and know what goes where.!

Re: Today I mostly .....
had a 4 hour stint with the twin cam hussar tonight. Took the wife and kids (even let her have a drive) up and down the local moor including a short steep banking. They all loved it. Then spent the evening trying to fix the faults we found. Now has an old non-digital radio from a k-reg citroen ax (amazing what you forget you have in back of garages that have been there for years)- hi-tech you turn a knob to adjust the radio frequency! Sorted why neither seats would tilt when kids and wife got in car - twisted/pulled wires to pull up lugs as they were slack. Pulled centre dash apart to see why some other switches didnt work/what they were. Has a switch to cut the power to the radio. Has a switch for rad fan - appears to not have a thermostat so will need to remember to turn on etc. 3 position heater fan doenst work on bottom position - only 2 wires attached to rear of switch and couldnt see a spare loose wire? Bent brackets for rear seat so catches now hold it in place. Generally looked around to see other things that might need doing - trackers rubbed on arches so checking ebay/baxters etc to decide which lift route is cheapest/easy etc. No diff lock light so will look into instrument panel removal for bulbs. Heater face vents wont stay up, just fall down, easy fix/replace? Found ebay listing when it was sold in jan this year and emailed seller to try and get history of car. Lost still to do - great fun!
Re: Today I mostly .....
assume its upside down then as is off - on-off.
Re: Today I mostly .....
top and bottom nothing, middle I assume full power - will have another look for a spare wire next time apart cheers. Is there anywhere a 1.7i drivers manual can be downloaded - can see 1.6 drivers manuals and 1.7 workshop manuals...
