Today I mostly .....
Re: Today I mostly .....
Yes. 325 is a 2.5 L, but this is a 318 which for some reason has a 325 badge on the back.

Re: Today I mostly .....
Went sea fishing off the beach and caught 13 small whiting - all using Lug worm.
A good evenings fishing.

Yep - Totally under size. Smallest was about 3" and biggest would about fit across two hands.

It was but it was better than leaving the hooks in.

Today I mostly...
Dropped a 6mm spanner into the Saab's engine bay. After bouncing off the alternator and fuel distributor, it proceeded to disappear into the box section through which the driveshafts pass after somehow managing to squeeze through the 1/4" gap behind the top suspension wishbone. Suspect it will remain in there forever more (or until I need to cut the bottom of that section out again to re-weld it anyway...this is a 900 we're talking about) as I certainly can't get at it to retrieve it. Fingers crossed there's enough cavity wax in there that it will stick to that and not rattle...
This evening I mostly...Messed around with the computer when I should have been doing more useful things, especially with a house move coming up in a little over three weeks.
...Friend introduced me a week or so back to Minecraft. So called survival mode? No interest for me whatsoever. Creative mode however, where you can basically build anything (provided you don't need a resolution greater than 1 cubic metre!)...This is strangely compelling and should be avoided at all costs as it is a terrible, terrible time-sink if you get hooked. Sadly it appeals to my creative side, and a massively over-complicated and over-sized digital building recreation is now under construction.
...There goes the last remaining bit of my sanity then...

Cried like a little girl when my Niva wouldn't start. I've been working on that engine for the best part of two months now.

Re: Today I mostly .....
Oh, sorry, didn't mean to leave people in the dark, just needed to say it. Since you asked though...
I put the new cam-carriers complete with cams on, new gaskets, torqued, shimmed for (pretty close to) correct valve clearances, new cambelt, new alternator drive belt, cleaned plugs. The battery is a bit low, but enough to crank it over for as long as I feel comfortable with holding the key, the petrol pump is filling the carbs (I have a glass filter just before the carbs); it just won't start. It just about fires once or twice when you let go of the key, but no combination of choke, pumping, praying, or pleading will make it catch.
Before I shimmed it I did fire it up just to check that everything was OK - it started fine, even though the valve clearances were WAAAAAAAAYYYY too big and it idled in a rather lumpy way. I did disturb several things to get all the covers back on, refill the radiator, etc. so I wil go back and recheck everything I touched. I think the timing may be out by a mile, but I didn't touch the distributor itself (not on purpose anyway) so that really is just a hunch. It is also hooked up to my Optimate battery charger at the moment, so by tomorrow morning the battery should be nice and sparky. I don't know if it is worth bleeding the fuel out of the carbs, as it started on Saturday morning. I don't know if fuel goes off in two to three months anyway - I'd hope not!
Regards

You changed the head gasket? Got the correct one on? They vary in thickness.
