Finally found where the VW Bora is leaking coolant. It took a while. It's in such an awkward spot too...

Yesterday - Finally got the rest of the brake pipes replaced with new copper ones and a pair of braided flexi pipes.
Today - fixed the speaker wiring in the car and re-wired to use the standard OEM ISO connector for the radio rather than the one the PO used to wire in the radio.

Watched the first full F1 GP for many a year!

...had NCT (MOT) for the VW Bora this morning. Failed on exhaust emissions at high idle. I got this stuff from local motor factors, I hope it helps.

It will help with the emissions, in the fact they will exit the pipe quicker :-)

Re-installed the instrument binnacle I'd had to replace after breaking a wire and shorting a fuse a while ago. Soldered new wire into place, fitted it and tested it. Everything worked fine, except the high beam warning light. Now, I don't know whether that's an MOT fail, but I wouldn't be happy without it anyway. So, continuity test for bulb says ok, but still a no-show. Eventually I fit everything and decide to have another look tomorrow. Get the Niva into the garage, and try again out of curiosity, and, there it is shining back at me! Realise that it's meant to be seen at night (or inside a dark garage) not in bright sunlight!!
Only a little job, but there's still that feeling of satisfaction when things work properly!

Got into work today to discover a power outage had taken out both machine rooms, comms gear, phone system and both SAN islands! This includes all the VM servers as well...more fun and games tomorrow.

Sold the last of the Lada Empire towit, one 2105 saloon in black. Collected on a trailer.

Then had to chase halfway across Hampshire to give him the keys...........

Then got home to find that the spare door was still residing in the garage.

Okay.

The coolant leak on the Bora is getting worse and it's time for me to do something about it. Now, before I go ahead and buy a new hose flange, does anyone have any input on the liquid type solutions that you put into the coolant tank and apparently they stop the leak.

Whilst I would tend to agree with Gadget on this matter. I did once upon buy this stuff, steel seal after much research.
In theory it works differently by not gunging stuff up, and it has a hilarious "science" video (you can tell it's serious because he has a poster of a molecule on the wall).

All that said I never used it and fixed the car properly. I gave it to a mate to use on his dying peugeot it didn't work... All that said if you really can't fix a leak properly I may as a last resort use Steel Seal.

Also it only works on head gasket leaks.

Nice little story there GadgetBoy. While I have no emotional attachment to polar bears, I would still prefer them to stay alive and dance around on the polar caps. Therefore I guess I will have to just fix it properly.

I have to get the car re-tested within 2 weeks and I hope I get the exhaust emissions sorted with some Italian tune up and fuel additive. Sort out the leak and probably sell it on and get something with a 1.9 TDI. Perhaps, a Vento?
