Now a SAAB question!

Post by Hoodoo » Mon May 16, 2011 5:41 pm

Will the rear springs from a SAAB 9-3 Aero Estate fit the saloon model to compensate for existing springs that have done 190000 miles and now have to support the extra weight of an LPG tank? Hoping to restore normal(ish) ride height. Provided no excessive lift, standard shocks should be ok?

You can ask the same question of a Vectra because that's what they are underneath the Swedish skin.

I don't know but if it can be done in a Vectra it can be done in a 9-3.

Cheers for that Simon. Can we be certain the same thing applies to SAABs?

2002 - Present. The Vectra and the 9-3 are both the GM Epsilon platform.
1994- 2002. The Vectra, 900 and 9-3 are the GM 2900 platform.

In both cases the estates chassises (sp. ?) were designed and made by Holden with Saab applying the exterior panels.

For a definitive answer you'd need a Saab expert or forum but I'd be betting on "No" for an answer to your original question.

I know the GM and SAAB floorpans were essentially the same, but I need to know whether the SAAB running gear was unique to SAAB, or common to other GM models. You're probably right, time to ask around! :)

The answer to my original question is, 'Yes'. Owner / driver reports no problems fitting, weight increase well catered for, and handling / ride spot on!
