Thought I'd give a small update on my front diff bracket project...
Basically, I stole a couple pics from http://nivaventure.free.fr/Texte/Equipements/Support_pont_av/Support_pont_av.htm and gave them to my wife, who works in the advertisement business. She used Ulead Photo Express to blow them up, then I used one of the inner CV shaft bearing retainer plates to check that the bolt holes lined up with those on the printed image.
Once I was satisfied with the result I printed a couple copies just in case I damaged one of them. Took the printed pages and glued them to a big piece of strong cardboard, cut the outline out with a very sharp blade and came up with two good templates, which were used to trace the shape of the brackets on a 50 cm x 40 cm of 9 mm-thick steel plate with the aid of a paint marker (I couldn't find 10 mm plate locally, but I thought 9 mm would do the trick as well).
It was very hard for me to find a local metalworks shop which carried a plasma cutter, but I finally found it. I'll be picking the plates up next Friday, so keep checking this thread for updates...
Below is a pic of the plate with the brackets outlined:

Hi David, glad you like it so far.
Don't worry, I'll do a nice write-up once I'm done with all that cutting and welding.

Nope, I don't... I certainly would've liked to see how it works, since I've only seen it on American Chopper _________________ Alejandro Gabatel

Awesome bits of kit the plasma cutter, I used to love playing with the plasma arc at my old job. So easy, clean and versatile.
Really thick plate I used to have cut at the welding & construction workshops at the local college, they had the magic eye oxy acetylene profiling machine - just stick a drawing outline in and watch it do its stuff. Did a C&G 165 welding course there. |

Build a particle accelerator! Then you'll have plenty of exotic thingummies that need cutting. You want them to be shiny after all! _________________ GadgetBoy

| plasma cutting is pretty hard if you have really shakey hands like me, most things i've cut came out with zig zagged edges!!! |
