Purchased a new soldering iron kit from Maplins. All I wanted was the de-soldering pump, but it worked out cheaper to buy one of their starter kits than buy a de-soldering pump.

And also today, I changed teams. I went from the team that looks after Email (MS Exchange) to a new role in the team that provides server hardware/software support

There is no blame culture......... ;-)
It should be a good change, VMWare/ Hypervisor, EMC SAN exposure, HP Hardware etc all good stuff for the CV.

I did consider the Nexus, my mate has one and there a few in work with the S2 so a hard choice really.

Today I mostly...Discovered and bought an Ecko TMB272 television in an antique store and nearly killed myself during the half hour walk back to the house. Will start working on that when I get back home next week.

Image

Originally it was marked as "not for sale" due to a lack of a PAT test, but with a bit of haggling and a disclaimer signed indicating that I knew what I was getting into, it was mine. At some point I'll need to get around to either buying or building a standards converter so that I can actually get an image on it.

one for the apple fans among us!

"Once when I was hiking and became lost in the wilderness, I was attacked by bears. Luckily, I had my MacBook Pro with me which has my face as the desktop picture. I raised the screen high above my head, effectively looking taller to the bears, and they ran away. I then used the shiny titanium case to signal a rescue plane."

many hours have been lost here, laughing to myself.

Today I mostly...

Wandered around the centre of Oxford before meeting up with a friend for lunch. Also rode on a diesel-electric hybrid bus for the first time (Alexander-Dennis Enviro 400H) and have to admit to actually being quite impressed from a passenger's perspective. Very, very smooth and surprisingly quiet.

Seem to have ended up with quite a collection of photos from the day as well...no surprise there then. Will throw some of those at my Flickr page tomorrow evening if I'm not too knackered.

Tomorrow I drive back from Brackley where I've been staying for the last couple of weeks to Aberdeen. Car's already mostly loaded up save for the electronics and valuables and if fuelled up and ready to go. Not exactly looking forward to another eight hour stint in the 107, but fingers crossed the trip will go well. At least I've figured out how to program waypoints into the sat-nav this time so I won't have to stop every 150 or so miles and re-program it - have to admit that I ignore it most of the time anyway, but it's nice to have there as a backup in case you get things wrong (see also the M73/M74 bit around Glasgow which I mess up without fail every time). It's at least programmed to the route which I'm planning on this time!
