Finally found the mirror that I bought about eight months ago for the C5 and fitted it. Makes life a lot easier, as it's actually quite awkward to look right over your shoulder while riding it. Just normal blind spot check now which is far easier on the back and neck, and less likely to send me careering into the nearest streetlight, bin, bollard or parked car while trying to look backwards.



Folds down pretty much flat with the bar too, so won't get snapped off when in the garage hopefully. ...Cost all of four quid anyway, so no biggie even if it doesn't last long. Doesn't seem to vibrate too much and holds its adjustment just fine it seems too from the brief trip out today.

Also found an old wired cycle computer in one of my boxes of bits which I will probably fit tomorrow. The current wireless one is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. It looses comms with the pickup half the time, and the battery seems to last on average about three and a half nanoseconds. It's also got a capacitive button to change modes, which activates randomly when it's either slightly damp or slightly staticy on a dry day. Hopefully using something a bit lower tech will solve this problem.

Oh...also when we had the snow, I answered the question of whether you can in fact do donuts in a C5, the answer is that yes, you can.

Today I mostly...

Met up with a fellow collector of all things lighting related who was having a clear out. Aim was to pick up four Philips MA90 street light heads which will be used to sort out a couple of black holes out the back of our place, making it all usable in the evenings. Will be handy come the summer when we tend to have barbecue parties etc. Area round the house is pretty well lit, but there are a few areas which are pitch dark presently, these will sort it nicely.

...Unsurprisingly given he's having a clear out, he turned up with a fair amount more than I'd asked for. This was the back of my car before I started unpacking.



It's all actually stuff I have practical use for...just means that in the short term it's added another couple of layers to the Tetris puzzle that is the garage!

Changed the front spheres on the Xantia. Isn't it wonderful when a job you have not done in over ten years is actually as easy as you remember. Six minutes start to finish. Exercising the suspension after the work took longer than the job itself.

Goodness what a difference. Like a totally different car.

Ooooh....Right up my street. Bush AC11 if I'm not mistaken.

Restored one of those for someone a couple of years ago, really nice easy set to work on. Think I still have one of my own...not sure whether it made the move down here or if it's still up at my parent's place. Would need to go and rummage in the garage to check as most of my vintage tech is tucked away at the back of it (it's a bone dry integral garage, so no worries about things going rusty etc...it's drier than most houses/flats I've lived in!). Should perform well with relatively little work.

It is indeed a Bush AC11.
Never worked on kit to like this and not sure what I am going to do with it other than save it from the skip.

AC11 isn't a bad set to start on to be honest. There's a "where to start guide" somewhere over there as I recall. Only thing to remember is that throughout the set that high voltages are present and that they can bite.

If you decide to pass the set on sure someone will be happy to give it a home. Sadly they aren't worth much (probably because they are pretty bulky things and that the market is pretty saturated).

Let the Saab run for an hour or so, started first touch of course once the battery was charged. Also drowned the Xantia's engine bay in degreaser and gave it a hose down. At least has got rid of the worst of the gunk that has accumulated recently and the splash damage from my recent fuel filter change.

Some of the more stubborn deposits aren't going to.be so easy to shift. I miss the hot water pressure washer we used to have at the garage...could shift anything with that thing (including paint, wiring insulation, wiper blades and human skin in the hands of the untrained, unwary, half asleep or idiotic).
