1988 Lada Niva 1600 5-Speed RHD 29,000 Miles
1988 Lada Niva 1600 5-Speed RHD 29,000 Miles
It's with a heavy heart that my Niva has to go. A new business venture needs funds which I haven't got so She's up on eBay with a 99p start.
All the info is in the description, let me know if I've left anything out.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-1988- ... 620822940?
I hope she goes to a good home (and hopefully someone on here).
Good luck with your bids if you decide to go for it.
Cheers
Si

I've just spent ages drooling over your E-Bay entry for this car-it's LOVELY! I appreciate my opinion might be in a minority on this site, but the sight of an unmolested Niva, looking just as it was when it left the factory is a real pleasure! The colour looks just great for a car of "agricultural heritage" too! I am not in a position to bid for it, although I AM looking for a car capable of doing some decent towing and this one would fit the bill and wish you luck, both with the sale and with the forthcoming business you're establishing.

Hi mate,
I'll be bidding. If I get her, be assured she'll be well looked after.
Cheers.

BTW, is she capable of cruising at 60-70 mph in the 5th gear? If I get the car, I'll need to take her up north., some 400 miles, just wondering whether to drive or to transport...
Also, did you have the petrol smell sorted?

There was never a petrol smell issue with this car, it was with my previous Niva.
Good luck with your bid and Merry Christmas.

Re: 1988 Lada Niva 1600 5-Speed RHD 29,000 Miles
It is quite interesting how the UK market for classical Ladas evoluate. I recall not that long ago they were being sold as junk metal rather than cars, mainly re-exporting back to Russia for spare parts and they were going there in thousands by boats. Then good examples became rarer and by the time I bought my soviet Riva there was only 1 or 2 good ones on the market at any one time fetching around £800-1000. Then about 2 years ago I was surprised to see a white RHD Lada 2104 sold on ebay for £2000 (I then accidentally saw the car in flesh during the Edinburgh festival).. A LHD Lada 2103 from Belgium in mint condition was recently sold to a Moscow buyer for 5000 euros. And here is a Niva going for almost £3ooo... Even if the top bidder defaults, the others are still there to back up, so that is the price then! At current exchange rate £3000 is 270,000 Russian roubles, you can buy an almost new Niva for that price in Russia, but it will never have the same charm as it doesnt have ''Made in USSR'' stamped all over it, and most importantly it is the RHD Ladas that are a real rarity these days.
So if you are lucky enough to own a RHD Lada do not yet get rid of it unless you're really short of cash!))
