Video editing - get Ubuntu first
You need to get the latest version of Ubuntu which is the Linux equivalent to MS Windows but superior on your computer first.
Here is the link: http://www.ubuntu.com/download You can do a test install without commitment so you see how it works.
It is a fantastic operating system and is totally free and any software you download is free plus none of it is advert driven and is a very secure and safe system to use.
You will be able once downloaded and installed to download from the Ubuntu software page plenty of video and photographic software and many other software packages all FREE.
Hope this helps and good luck - Regards Smugsie

Re: linux - video editing
I have downloaded UbuntuStudio and got it installed on a spare machine (Athlon 1.5ghz, 2gb Ram 1x60gb 1x40gb 1x500gb HD)
Just downloaded 241 updates, so need to spend some time getting things setup and see if I can get the Firewire card going, cd burner etc.

Re: linux - video editing
The thing about Ubuntu is it does like to keep you up to date hence all the download. You can stop them from happening if you wish.
What do you think of its outward appearance.
You should once you get your head around it be a convertee.
Thank you for trying my advice.
I have had so much help from this forum in general, there are great lads and lassies behind the scenes.

Re: linux - video editing
It will take me a while to get used to it. It seems a bit slow at the mo, maybe some tweaks will help.
Still have to install things like Flash player for YouTube etc.
Will see how it goes...
