The gearstick is nicely positioned, i love it. The engine has 34horsepower and has low consumption as the car weights around 700kg. You mustn't be seasick though, because on corners this thing literally touches the floor with side of the body

It does, it does.
Ever driven one of those?

Goodness, few years since I last saw one of them.
Same switchgear as my Renault 11TC. Wasn't a bad little car that, was just a real pain to get parts for, that was the only reason I sold it.
Today I mostly...Gave the Saab an oil and filter change. Astonishing how much more drama-free it is when you're the last one to have done both of these things so that neither the sump plug nor the oil filter have been tightened up to within an inch of their lives.
Did manage to put a fair amount too much oil in (still not sure how I managed that!), so had to drain about a litre back out after I was done. No major disaster, but annoying nevertheless.
Possibly heading out tomorrow to a steam and vintage fair. Just a visitor to this one though I think as it's a pretty major one in our area and I've not done any of the entry paperwork...Plus I kinda want an excuse not to be up early tomorrow!

Re: Today I mostly .....
Over the weekend I picked up my new windshield, and hot me some bumpers too, they got sanded to a rough polish, then primered and painted by rattle-can. A nice flat black, getting mounted this week, also going to weld up the brush guards the previous owner beat up, going to have this thing looking a lot better by the time its running again. I polished the roof rack that had been poorly painted, and removed the cracked and dry rotted louvers. Spark plugs swapped out and a new cap and float for the brake reservoir swapped in. Picked up a good Bosch filter and when I get out to the store will pick up some good 10 or 15 weight oil. Gearbox is getting picked up this week and install will begin.

Re-re-re-fitted my fluorescent ceiling light which has to get stuffed into storage every 3 months when our property inspection takes place. Oh how I look forward to *owning* a place so I don't have to do that.
Also received the new floor mats for the Saab. They're a bit brighter than they looked in the pictures, but nevertheless the colour is suitably 80s I think, and they'll dull down a bit with some wear I'm sure.

...Though they actually FIT properly so I'll forgive them being just about any colour. The 900 has a rather oddly shaped floorpan, so trying to get anything beside the horrible cheap & nasty cut-to-fit rubber things (which were in there before) to fit right is tricky.
Also discovered that activated carbon filters make a really impressive mess when you drop one and the casing shatters and said carbon ends up all over your kitchen floor. Took me an hour to clean up.

Re: Today I mostly .....
Yesterday I got some of the Harvey Frost rubbed down ready for paint.
Tonight, got a thinned down coat of Smalt blue Rylard paint on.
Then tonight went to my sisters to collect 17 packs of Quick Step slate effect laminate flooring and delivered it to my mums.

RRahhh! I have anger
First the Zafira engine starts up with a whine from the Alternator, so a mendy book and an alternator are duly purchased on the basis that I have to start somewhere (still waiting to arrive) and then today blatting through Six Mile Bottom (don't ask) at a stately 30, over the level crossing and the car starts to sound like a townie's hatchback, one brief inspection later it appears that the exhaust has come completely apart just before the last boxy thing. I'm not to sure what I've done to upset it but it wants to punish me.

Re: Today I mostly .....
You've said that before and I now believe you. I'm tied up with it at the moment but at some point it will be not worth mending and then it's history....
Re: Today I mostly .....
Last night helped a mate remove a stubborn rear leaf spring on his L200. The bolt holding the front leaf mount in place had seized in the bush, so ended up grinding off the bolt head and using brute force managed to squeeze it out the mount.
Replaced with a new leaf in about 45mins. Most of that was aligning the stud in the top leaf with the hole in the bottom plate on the axle. With the help of two ratchet straps all was aligned!
Managed to get another coat of paint on the Harvey frost.

This evening I mostly...
Bought and set up a new monitor following the demise of one of the backlight CCFLs in my old one.
Goodness...there ain't half a difference between TN and IPS panels! Seriously is like night and day.
Seriously tempted to pick up a second one for the other monitor now as it looks very poor in comparison. Plus it would be nice to have both desktops actually lining up with each other...would look cool too.

Simon, you'll want to get that reg sorted ASAP. Battery won't last long if you're shoving 16V into it!

Re: Today I mostly .....
Changed the bushes in the rear shock absorbers. Which is an easy, straightforward job that wouldn't take much time, right? NO!
When the mounting bolts have been untouched for the best part of six years and been exposed to all sorts of things on and off road, and the shocks are gas charged, and insist on shooting out to full extension when the bolts are eventually removed, it becomes a bit of an effort to get it all back together. Cleaning nuts and bolts, then compressing the shocks while trying to fit the bolt that holds the bottom takes on a new meaning. Those Procomp ES9000's are strong! And the clipped ends of cable ties are as effective as the point of a knife blade at taking little nicks out of your skin! You don't really realise it until you begin to wonder what that wet feeling on your arm is! There's also the fact that Sod's Law says that one side will be relatively easy, but the other!!!!
Anyway, it's done, now for the front ones, much more accessible!

Did some painting on the Harvey Frost.
Went to Chester for Afternoon Tea with Mrs Excossack. The cafe is the only one on the wall in Chester.

I'm going to change the track rod end, as it's a bit too wobbly :p
Re: Today I mostly .....
replaced the drivers side front wheel bearing, as it was a bit rough, and changed the off road tires in favour of the road ones. feels much more nippy now and is much easier to drive on the motorway. this is all in preperation to my upcoming drive to the south of france... in a niva... with an even older fiat engine.... and a straight through exhaust... i hope they let me on the ferry!
