It doesnt help with the owner being a smoker. As you say, I think the dust killed the video card. Fan still works but, I suspect it has overheated and keeled over

Drove home in the rain with my head out of the window after the windscreen wiper motor stripped the splines on the shaft.
All good fun.

I think i followed a small part of that.....hoverfrog wrote:swore at M$ because the thread that calls the RegisterTouchWindow() has to own the window - which isn't possible in Java. Affaire classée - I have to re-write the application in a language Windoze7 understands. Not a happy bunny.

I followed about 0% of it!
Today I mostly took the windscreen wiper mechanism apart. The splines on the motor shaft were ok but the ones on the arm had stripped. Threw it in the woodburner until it was red hot then hammered it back onto the motor shaft. It's made it's own splines, not sure how long it'll last but as it stands I'm mobile again!

Today I mostly:
Went to work...Then gave the Saab a once-over in preparation for its MOT tomorrow. New tyre went on to replace the one oddball old one (reckon it must have been a used replacement following a puncture as the other three were virtually new and matched) which was starting to perish badly yesterday.
Checked all the lights etc, adjusted the aim of the windscreen washers a bit, and got the nearside headlamp washer jet working. Easy fix at least, when the car had a new radiator in a couple of years ago the hose to the washer had been caught underneath one of the brackets. I like five minute fixes!
Crossing my fingers things go well tomorrow...Not holding out huge hopes, a clean bill of health at an MOT is a pretty big ask for a 23 year old car which has had no real prep work done save for one bit of welding done a couple of months back when the hole was found.

Re: Today I mostly .....
Yesterday I mostly watched my Saab fail its MOT.
...Due to a knackered shock absorber of all things. Still seems to pass the "bounce test" just fine - but the plot produced by their machine shows that it's only being about 20% effective at damping things - test was run twice to make sure, and the rear ones checked out fine too, so looks like it is knackered.
Today I mostly tried to get said shock absorber off the car. Without success - bottom bolt *really* doesn't want to come undone.

Re: Today I mostly .....
Top one will be getting taken off with the angle grinder (well, will just go through the shaft from the shocker and lift it out). Bottom one that's not an option as I can't risk damaging the threads (which are part of the suspension wishbone). Don't think I could get in anyway, driveshaft is in the way.

Re: Today I mostly .....
Gave up trying to get the duff shock absorber off the Saab.
Bottom bolt just does not want to budge. Reckon you need a bigger breaker bar than I have handy and more heat than my tiny little blowtorch that's running out of gas can get into it - especially when it's blowing a gale.
Decided to quit while I was ahead before I destroyed the nut (or worse, the wishbone) and just made life harder for myself.
Booked into the garage to get it changed on Friday. Fingers crossed they'll get it done that day so I can get it back in time to take to the Saab meet up here on Sunday.
If not will be yet another one that I'll have to turn up to in something other than the relevant type of car!
