I've done the journey a few times now, and for some reason that way always seems to end up taking a lot longer. Plus I started out making this journey by the NX590 coach service and this is the route that took - so it's kinda ingrained as being "the route down south" in my head anyway and I'm less likely to foul up the navigation.

Today I mostly spent my time working on the Landy

Replaced the bolts that hold in the winch in place with some new ones

Fixed the handbrake warning light

Spent 3.5 hours swapping out the steering box with a re-con one.
Struggled with two bolts so got the air powered buzz gun out
The air turned blue while trying to get the new one back in place but got there in the end
Torqued the drop arm nut up to the correct torque - 130 lbf/ft or 176Nm which made good use of the new 34mm socket I ordered.

And my new phone case arrived :-)
Regards.

Interesting, might need to switch routes next time then. Drive back up yesterday went completely without incident. One stop at Lancaster for lunch and fuel, otherwise completely non-stop. 7:45 journey time which isn't bad given we weren't in any huge rush. Couple of hours quicker than the southward journey - though we did lose about an hour and a half then stuck on the M40 on the way down.

four inner wheelarches, front panel, inner and outer sills both sides, complete drivers floor, complete passenger floor. A pillar drivers side, b pillar passenger side. rear valence, and make a sump guard
That sounds almost like the whole car! At least it pays towards a years rent.

Mostly...did some checks then fed the 57 year old TV I picked up last week some power to see what would happen and where I would be starting the restoration from. Didn't expect to get first light on the screen to be honest, but was very surprised not only to get that, but actually get a full screen raster. Looks like the vision IF stages are oscillating, but everything is working to some extent, it's responding to external interference and the CRT looks good...so shouldn't be a massively difficult restoration. ...Famous last words!

Just need to pick up a standards converter now so I can throw a video signal at it!

They did indeed. It will need a bit of work to get it working as well as it can, mostly just capacitor replacements as the old waxed paper ones absorb moisture over time and become electrically leaky. The inbuilt radio is working as well, albeit somewhat being a little insensitive.

I look forward to actually getting some pictures on the screen - I don't want to do too much more at this stage though until I've got a video source, as periodic checks as you replace components are a good way to keep track of whether you've done something wrong. Can't quite afford a standards converter right now...so one's on the wish-list for my birthday which isn't far off.

Did some gardening. Checked for PAS fluid leaks after swapping the steering box and none found so thats good news, and while I had the bonnet open, checked the oil/water and topped up the screen wash.

Mostly today I mucked around not doing much of anything useful...

This evening I mostly re-strung my guitar - which the poor thing has been in desperate need of for a long while (especially once I realised that the third string was a different grade to the rest...). Never appreciated before quite how fiddly a process it was! Would be far easier if I had three hands and *really* long arms.

Immediate reaction - which I realise may change once the new strings have bedded in a bit - is that it sounds a heck of a lot better. Which is saying quite a lot given that it already had a lovely tone.

Also have taken my father's electric guitar on loan for a while as the poor thing's been getting virtually no use for several years now and was disgustingly filthy just from sitting around. Will be giving that a bit of exercise (well, such as I can given my current lack of skill) and a darn good (careful) clean. Also gives me an excuse to play around with the overdrive pedal as well, which is always fun.
