Zhiguli project/parts for sale

Post by flaminlada » Mon Mar 14, 2011 3:07 pm

It's with a heavy heart that I've decided to part with my 1977 Lada Zhiguli. She needs a lot more work than I can possibly hope to do & I don't have the time to do anything to her.

I don't want to take her for scrap as I know these cars are rare. I hope there is someone to bring her back to life or at least use some of her parts.

She will need a new floor as she has lots of holes and at least 2 new front wings. The engine seems fine and has been running, she'll have to have a new clutch. The glass is in excellent condition.

I will post photos but there may already be some on here as I posted them when I first bought her.

Regards

Clare

Below you should find some pictures!

One of the holes in the floor, there are two. I don't know how bad the rust has bitten, they may just need patching?

Hope these help!

Is there anyone that close to my location that can come & have a look at what needs doing to Daisy & give me a plan of action as to repairs?

I'm in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire.

Have rang round a few more scrappies and the very least they can give me is £150. I really don't want to go down this route but it's looking likely.

I've recently removed the seats to put in my current Riva.

Anyone willing to make an offer?

Might be worth a post over on Retro Rides. I had quite a few responses to my ad for my Riva over there. Not a forum I've ever spent any real time on - but there's a very high readership compared to here.

There's a LOT of work needed here - but this is far too rare a car to scrap I think.

Hello!

I talked to a chap yesterday morning about welding & he gave me a very reasonable price to do the stuff needed...

So I'm currently deciding whether I'm going down that route. I've had a talk to Neil about Parts & it's good news (nice to get some for a change!)

Clare, that is great news. These cars are very few and far between and yours would be worth saving. All the necessary panels and sills are available, and at the end of it you will have a lovely usable classic.

It will also appreciate in price. I paid just £200 for my 1600 which needed new wings, valance, respray etc etc. Total cost of parts and repairs eventually came to £2000. However, a clean 1600 recently sold for £2,800. As they get rarer they will continue to climb in value. Good luck and post the pictures as the restoration goes along!

I checked with Neil to see if the parts are still available & he said they were. I'm looking at around £450 for welding which will make her solid. Parts wise about £225 (may include a new floor pan, but may be able to use sheet metal). I know there's more to think about than just that, but it's an excellent start.

My gut feeling there is that's a very good price for that level of welding! Wish I could find someone who worked at rates like that to do the welding on my van...would cost me about fifty quid!

I agree, sounds a very good deal. Try and get original panels as far as you can. They are all available including the box sections, outriggers, inner and outer sills and floor pan. It would work out cheaper and give a far better finish.

My first reaction to the welding price was 'Huh?!, is that all?' especially because, even to my untrained eye, there's a lot of work.

The chap that's going to do it is very into his Skodas & loves to keep old cars on the road. He's not that far from me either, about 22 miles, so close enough to visit.

I just wish I'd known about him earlier!
