Today I mostly .....
Took the Cappuccino on its first proper moderately long motorway run. Popped down to Perth for the day.
Ran nicely there and back, averaged 47mpg too. Having more than enough power to just sit in 5th the whole way means that the economy does really improve on a steady run.
I am however going to be hearing the wailing exhaust note from the little 3 cylinder engine in that thing screaming away at 4500rpm the whole way for the rest of the evening I think...quiet it is not! Fun however it is!

Washed the Niva and touched up the paint chips that had miraculously appeared at Coney Green! Changed to AT tyres to do without the MT howl - until the next time!
Cut the grass and going to do the ironing once I've finished here. Nothing worth watching on the telly, so might as well!
Regards,

Spent the evening dismantling my television which has picked this week to throw a fit - when I've got guests staying over the weekend!
...Even worse is that it looks as though the fault may well be effectively terminal. Need to get the screen and optics off the top of the blue CRT tomorrow to take a closer look. There's liquid which has dripped onto the PCB from somewhere however - and about the only thing above the PCB in question is the blue CRT. These have cooling fluid in between the phosphor screen itself and the outer faceplate apparently, and this seal can fail...in which case it'll be new CRT time. And getting a new blue CRT for a 9 year old rear projection set isn't likely to be an easy task.
...That's assuming that said fluid hasn't caused a short which has destroyed any hard to source semiconductors too!
...I really prefer dealing with electronic equipment which is 40+ years old and has valves in! This modern stuff confuses me - plus this is a bloody complicated TV at the best of times!

Heh...Might as well be £25000-350000 at that price.
Only reason I've got this is that it was obtained for free when it broke last time (duff convergance IC's - common and easily fixed fault).
Imagine I'll find something - just a shame though, and annoyingly timed, meaning I won't have a working TV while I've got people staying. Will have a better look at it this evening and see if I can track down what's going on. All signs at this point do appear to point to failure of the blue CRT however - the question really being whether this has damaged the other two. Finding one good used or NOS tube might not be impossible - three however would be a bit of an ask!

Did a bit of soldering.
Round here we've got several sections of road, with 30mph speed limits, that go under overhanging trees. In bright sunlight, they obscure the light making it near impossible to see the speedo on the dash - and I don't fancy keeping speed cameras in business.
I also don't like turning the lights on in the middle of the day to see the speedo (I'm not driving a Volvo!).
So, I disconnected the light switch live lead to the rheostat and replaced it with a feed from an ignition live source (brown wire). Now, when I turn on the ignition, the dash lights are on, and controlled by the rheostat. They go off with the ignition.

Packed!
Off to Uni tomorrow.
I hate packing. I also found a tooth had sheared off the rear sprocket on the motor bike, so that's now staying at home! Bit of a pain but I don't know what did the damage and I don't trust ally as far as I can throw it when it comes to stress fractures, if the teether either side are damaged and decide to give as well I could be in a world of trouble. o well, no transport for me.
It is a pain though, I was obviously looking for part time work in the whole area, now I'm considerably more limited.

Attempted to take my flatmate's Peugeot 306 (he's away on business) out for a run as requested - only to have the nearside rear wheel lock up solid halfway across the carpark. Initially thought something horrific had happened to the rear suspension given the way the back of the car dropped! No idea what's going on there - seems to be locking up/freeing off completely at random...so the car was very slowly turned around in the carpark and put back into its parking space - he can look at it when he gets back. I've virtuallly no experience with drum brakes, so would probably only make things worse by messing with it.
Not starting to take apart drum brakes on a car that's not even mine right now - got enough things going on and little enough energy as it is!
