LADA RIVA FOR SALE.
LADA RIVA FOR SALE.
Hello,
I am - sadly - looking to sell my 1990 Lada Riva 1600 SLX. The reason for this is that it doesn't run at the moment and I cannot afford to repair it. I started experiencing problems in January with a loss of oil and ultimately it was found that the car would need new drive chain tensioners. But this mend seemingly necessitates more than just tensioners. My mechanic has used the word 'terminal' but, unwilling to accept that as gospel, I have decided to try to sell it to anyone looking for a Lada project, and here seemed like the best place to start.
The car is in dark blue and boasts a five-speed gearbox. There is some light rust on the vehicle but mainly it is in good condition. The slider bars for the heater have been pushed into the dash and have limited movement, but the heater seems to work fine. I cannot think of anything else that is broken; it all works a charm.
I am not a mechanical Wunderkind; I have just been a Lada fan since forever. I bought mine last June and drove it from Dartford to the west coast of Cumbria, where it now resides. As you might imagine, she was a joy to drive. If you have any interest, feel free to state it here.
Regards,
Keith.

1990 Lada Riva 1600 SLX. 5 speed.
1. You're right next door to Alan, our esteemed host, so parts and advice will not be a problem.
2. I suspect your mechanic is talking out his arsé.
The chain tensioner is an easy job and can be done with relatively little dismantling. Now, needing a chain tensioner because of oil loss sounds a little fishy.
I think we need a little more information.

3rd vote for Alan. When the garage i took my lada to said i needed a new head due to the timing belt eating the head, i called Alan to enquire about a new head...The reply was Why ? I explained. Alan said, if you want bring here and i will sort. So i did, a 2 hour trip up the M6, a spot of camping by Ulswater and dropped the Niva off at Dr Bird and all was well. New tensioner, new pad and sorted.
Regards.

Any news??
I was told when I took my Riva for a service earlier this year that both bottom balljoints needed doing, probably my timing chain & one of my brake pipes was 'excessively corroded'. They couldn't get the back brake discs/drums off either, after 4 days! Took him for his MOT, none of it needed doing! Seriously, there's something weird going on with my brakes!
Regards
