One thing about doing body work and using "bog", REALLY BORING!

I did all the major parts of the fillling, and my mate will finish the repairs off, i cant believe how the quarters have destorted even with me taking really good care!

Oh well...

Image

Front shocker mount repaired, just put the mount back on to try it, and will have to weld the hole up in the middle of it!

Hopefully in primer this weekend!

I forgot all about that john until i read this thread to post again, ill sort that out!

Lots of pics etc i forgot to post here

Today went with some tidying up in the garage, and my mate finally doing some te the mini!

Image

I dont know how he knows what he is doing as he isnt looking at what he is doing and has no pupils in his eyes also!

Image

Filler nearly done, just some pinholes to sort out.

Image

" ginger " who we made cover his hair for this pic [:D] then started to mask the car for priming the repairs.

Image

Funny, in those pics, it looks like mike is priming the car in the shop with no mask on, but i remember it being in the booth and mike wearing a full air fed mask and paint suit.

strange

but the primer will be rubbed tomorrow and then into the booth, erm, i mean it has to come out first ofcause!

Looking forward to getting the car done, then the bmw can get in there for paint! [:Y:]

Mike aka " ginger " prepped the mini, and masked it in the booth!

Image

Mark in that pic is the lad who looks like he is doing something on the car LOL! as if!

So, the car was masked up and all sorted for action with the spray gun until we went to mask the drivers door and found

Image

dosnt look much but its a bit of rot we found when removing the door seal.

best sort that before paint!

So now the car is in the booth, ill weld it tuesday while mark repairs a truck. Im sure im being conned some how into babysitting someone who has to work over christmas otherwise on his own...

More progress!

but on the mini...

Image

The rot was cut out, and a plate was made, all edges cleaned up.

Image

Tacked into place

Image

Welded all the way around.

Image

Not my neatest welding, but its well stuck ;)

Image

Then attacked the welds with a belt sander, knocked the plate down a bit.

Image

Filled over the top, and then sanded it down, had to do 2 skims, and it was right!

Image

Car now masked up and pannel wiped

Image

Where the wings meet the scuttle and the front pannel, the gaps were sealed with tiger seal.

Image

No gas in the booth, so we used the space heater to get everything hot.

Image

First a coat of primer on the bits that where bare.

Image

Image

Then some base coat,

Image

More base coat, that was nibbed off in places, and more base applied...

Image

lacquered...

So thats the shell, door and bonnet painted, boot tomorrow as i found more rot ! Just sandblasted it and put some chop strand in it.

So itll be getting built up tomorrow hopefully and mot monday.

Thats coming along well Jon. I take it you heated the booth to warm the metal so you got a better finish on the paint and make it stick better?
No worries on the DVD.

WOW that's some serious work you've done. It's a Mini 30 isn't it? I was at Siverstone for the Mini's 30th anniversary celebrations.
I've had loads of Minis over the years but gave them up when I realised I was spending every weekend working on them. Most of mine were MK 1's though. The oldest I had was registered in January 1960 but I've also had a Clubman etsate which I uprated with a 1340 (then later a 1380) engine, discs, spax buckets, harnesses etc etc etc, and a Mini van that had a Daimler 2.5 litre V8 in it. I bought it to have a bit of fun at York drag strip but never got to run it due to engine problems that I couldn't afford to put right. I could do all the mechanical jobs but didn't have a welder at the time which is a major setback to Mini ownership

Image

Looks dirty as it lives in my mates workshop and there is loads of filler dust in the air all the time. Itll just wash straight off so not a problem!

Just missing 3 arches, 1 had a crack in it, 1 needed modding, and the other one Ginge knocked off the table when he painted it! [XXX]

Image

No boot lid as there was a repair on it, and the primer is showing threw, its all ready and prepped, will be painted thursday, and on friday!

CAR IS GOING FOR MOT SATURDAY!!!

So, finally, i can get on with the BMW!
