|
|
I bought my Niva about a month ago and having been used on a farm for 3 years there was no MOT. First glance underneath revealed the need to repair/replace the sills, so i decided to replace with 3x3 box.
The reason:-
Cut old inner sill out:-
Prepare box section by 'capping' ends
And trial fit before welding in:-
first need to sort outer sill:-
Weld it in and treat to a little paint:-
(notice i had to make a new 'outrigger' for the fronts also (60x40mm box)
A little seam sealer for good measure:-
And a lick of underseal to finish off:-
I got rid of the original jack points but figured 3x3 box should stand up to a little jacking, if not i will add some 3/4 box underneath so i can use the original jack as intended. _________________ Lada Niva 1.7i aka 'Vlad'

Nice I wish I could do this to the trails truck, rules don't allow it
just a thought if your worried about collapsing the box, wouldn't it be easyer to make a wider contact foot for the head of the jack?
The strength will depend on the wall thickness of the box section 3mm+ I wouldn't worry about it

wall of box is 3mm so should be ok as you say. My existing jack (in one of the pics) was at it's max and just about held the box in place to weld it. A load spreader will thus kill two birds wit one stone so i can actually get the thing in the air _________________ Lada Niva 1.7i aka 'Vlad'

I lift mine with the Hi-Lift straight up and my sills are just 60*40*2!

B****r me, i knew i'd forget something
will get a pic tonight but basically they come down as far as the original sill lip so there is no loss of ground clearance. _________________ Lada Niva 1.7i aka 'Vlad'

Ha Haa I wondered if that would get noticed, it is mine (which is currently white) but with a little help from a friend (ok, he did it) it was photoshop'd. That is roughly how i want it to end up tho' _________________ Lada Niva 1.7i aka 'Vlad'
