After some serious offroad in weekend it felt like nothing under the car was quite in the right position. T-box had slided, mountings bent and floor was dented.
Laying under the car, looking at the U-joint I could see it working and the dougnut flexing. Just moving the case in the longholes did not seem to help. So, probably I also had a problem in the third dimension.
Using a 1,5 mm soft steel wire attached to the two halves of the UJ I made two needles pointing at eachother, 1 mm between them. Rotating the UJ I could then see what happened, distance between points changing. After adjusting the T-box 4 mm up, and lower G-box 2 mm I could then usethe longholes to adjust sideways. The needles works best when positioned like in the second clip, in line with the UJ-cross. Some white paint on the points helps to see them in the darkness.
EDIT: Of course the distance between the point should be the same during a full turn. A difference upper-lower may be corrected by moving in longholes parallell - and if thats not enough by using schimms for T-box or G-box. After doing height adjustments, compare the distance right-left and use longholes to adjust. Repeat until satisfied.
That's worked very well and gives an accurate indication of what's going on. Good job.
Incidentally, accurate alignment of gearbox output and transfer box input is essential regardless of whether there's a UJ or CV fitted to the intermediate shaft. Although the CV joint will accommodate more deviation in alignment than the UJ, it still needs to be properly aligned. Be prepared to space the transfer box and, if necessary, the gearbox to achieve this. It's the ONLY way to get proper running.

As long as they're not stuck in me, I'll be happy!
It's a method I'll use in the future, though.

Excellent idea.
I'll likely also copy this next 'box swap...
PS - anyone know how to copy Youtube to disk (the app I used to use doesn't work any more ). _________________ 1990 Niva 1600, Weber & 2" lift Baxter's Temple of Niva Site
Thanks! I'm happy if I can make a small contribution, a way to "payback" for all good info I have recieved from this forum.
If someone would like to try this and then make a proper "How-to" in English (..not in my version of Swenglish...), and post it here I would be even more happy! I have some problems finding the best words to describe the procedure. _________________ /mats
