Video Editing...

Post by excossack » Wed Nov 04, 2009 8:24 pm

Anyone do it/tried it?
Currently im working on a 4.2gb mpg2 file rendered by Vegas 4.0 from a selection of AVI files.
Im not sure what went on but when i rendered the avi files to an mpg ive ended up with 1.49mins of video footage at the start that was actually recorded at the end of the tape. What i need to do is remove the first 1.49mins totally or remove it from the beginning and drop it at the end.
I can remove it OK but i end up with 1.49mins of blank footage at the start and then its in the correct sequence.

Anyone suggest a easy to use bit of software to trim the offending bit of footage?
Regards.

I use Nero Vision. It's basic but fine and will do what you want.

Yeah, video editing takes ages and you need a powerful computer for anything in depth. I have done some ok stuff with Windows built in movie editor but your limited by your output formats. However, my brother has a thing for buying Serif software, and so I use a copy of Serif Movieplus which is actually alright.

1.4ghz/512mb RAM...... kinda crawls while doing video stuff. I need something like an AMD triple core with 4gb and a pair of 1TB HDs

That would be nice!
Mine's a bit quicker P4 2.4Ghz and 2GB RAM but can struggle if there's a lot of different scenes, particularly on the realtime playback and then even more rendering.

It would be nice, maybe later on.
Maybe opensource is the answer.

A combo of Vegas and NeroVision did the trick. Managed a menu at the start of the DVD as well.

Ive got about another 6 tapes to do! thats me sorted for a week.

This is my junk here and it works OK for editing i guess....

Image

AMD Triplecore
3 Gb ram
500GB main drive
Windows 7...... I don't like it
The wife and kids STILL manages to bog it right down though.

I've used the Nero software before and it does work very well.

I edit professionally (and on Vegas no less -- the Niva of PC NLEs!).

You can re-import into Vegas, edit the ends, and then re-render. If you pick the EXACT setting you rendered the original file with, it will just copy what was already rendered but not edited -- so the rendering period will be minutes instead of hours.

However it sounds like there's a glitch in one of the files. I'd re-render the entire thing.

A 4.2gig mpg files is quite big. How many minutes is it?

4.2gb is about 90mins of tape or 24gb of AVI files as ripped by Vegas.

That's right for DVD-quality mpeg-2 (could compress a bit further though, to fit more on a DVD).

What's the purpose? Do you want to edit it further? Play it in a standard DVD player? Play it on the computer (or newer DVD players?) Put in on YouTube?

I filmed a wedding back in July for a mate and wanted to put it on DVD for her. I tried it as MPG-2 file on a DVD and it wouldnt play so I used Nero Vison to make it into a DVD.#
Ive got some footage of some tractor pulling i may put on youtube.
Now i've sussed what im doing(although in a basic form) i can get on with the Honeymoon video from 2005 of Sydney and Cairns, some offroading and what ever else is on the tapes.
Regards.
