Cool Ale!
Found out my little bro put down a deposit on the replacement for my chrysler..... He's going to fix it at my parents and drive it up to the Soo when it's done next spring/early summer.
I know it's a little rusty but the recently replaced imported from Japan 7M-GE underhood only has 70,000k on it. Now i just have to figger how i'm gonna pay for it

Well, yesterdy, actually - finally finished sorting the various bangs and thumps coming from underneath the Niva.
This has involved changing a knackered CV in the intermediate shaft for a UJ one, fitting three doughnuts that disintigrated (they were old ones!), before fitting a heavy duty unit, replacing both propshafts that were, for one reason or another, useless, with brand new units. Replacing useless UJs in the new shafts (two days use!) with new ones, then having to get the new shafts straightened and balanced (get the Russian ones, NOT Polish if you buy any!) to stop the jackhammer that seemed to have taken up residence under my backside, replacing both inner and outer CV joints on the front right drive shaft, and finally, to clear up the final vibration, replacing the heavy duty doughnut with a brand new standard one (do NOT fit a heavy duty doughnut - it's too rigid and inflexible, and CAUSES vibration!).
All in all, several weeks of work, but the car now drives as it did when new, and I'm so relieved to have, AT LAST!, finished sorting it!!
By the way, threatening it with a sledge hammer does NOT work!!
Regards,

Glad to hear it, always satisfying getting a car sorted. But it's hard to imagine your car should need any work like that. It seems like just yesterday you got it new, but I suppose that "yesterday" has turned into 5 years!Hoodoo wrote:Well, yesterdy, actually - finally finished sorting the various bangs and thumps coming from underneath the Niva.

Simon, Yes please to the spacers, but no rush!
Hoverfrog, it helps to have a roll cage and a portable winch. With the winch tied to the cage inside the car, I use that to lower/raise the T/box - makes it a doddle!! But, lying underneath in the freezing cold trying to sort out 12 little nuts/bolts that hold the shafts to it is a b****r! Have to make a lot of use of the fire in the garage!
