Pardon my ignorance in all things CB and two-way, but I have an old maxon PC-50 "Wilkie-talkie" that I got from the bike training school I used to work at (sadly I only took one; the others got binned). Apparently the 50MHz band was no longer used by instructors but I never asked why. Anyway, this thing only picks up baby monitors which is rather creepy... Is this frequency still used for CB or other two-way comms?

I think it might have been. I was always on the legal bands.Never had a rig with Midnight bands, or Side band that worked. Always fancied a Ham International Jumbo

Today I mostly...

Paid a visit to Bletchley Park for the second time, and the National Museum of Computing for the first.

...quite staggered how much more stuff they had there than last time I was there! Last time I was there we were in and out in a couple hours, despite having a pair of parents in tow who insist on reading absolutely every plaque on every exhibit (galleries are painful...). Today though I could easily have lost a whole day there at my own pace I reckon.

The Computing Museum however is about as up my street as you can get. We only had an hour or so there before we had to go, but I could I reckon have vanished in there for days. Reckon I may have a chat and see if they have a place for a volunteer for a few hours here and there.

We never even made it as far around as the ARM/BBC/Acorn area. Probably a good thing as they probably never would have got me out again...

Today I mostly...

Dodged yet another crash-for-cash attempt. P plate Nissan Primera wanders over into the right hand lane on the dual carriageway (I had just moved there as I was turning right at the upcoming roundabout), at 70ish - then slams on the anchors - with no working brake lights. Unfortunately for him, Saab 900s stop faster than Nissan Primeras.

I seriously, seriously need to get a dash cam. This is the third or fourth time this has happened in as many weeks. Citroen, being more of a generic looking older car (much as it pains me to say that...) seems to be a particular target for them.

Really need something with a really small remote camera unit though that I can just tuck away behind the rear view mirror as I cannot stand having a plethora of devices scattered around the car - the aux lead from the stereo to my iPod bugs my OCD enough as it is.

So far the only things which have saved me have been the fact that I'm a pretty hypervigilant driver thanks to my PCV training and the fact that in particular the Xantia, my cars have bloody powerful brakes. It's only a matter of time at this rate until my luck runs out though...

Lucky sod!

Guess that will make many jobs a lot easier. I really need to get a set of ramps myself...not least so I can get the Xantia's ride height set properly.

Proper four post lift definitely is on the "if we won the lotto list" though.

Things look quiet around here. Nice ramp, ladanivabelgium. Definitely makes jobs easier.

Since I've last posted here, I have done the following to the Punto:
- Replaced oil and filter
- Put on two part worn Continental tyres on the front
- Removed airbag light which came on out of nowhere
- Replaced both headlights and tail lights (because I got them for free) and some bulbs yet the fast indicator problem is still there, most likely a bad ground due to corrosion (open to correction)
- Cleaned out air filter with air compressor

Other than that, I've done nearly 5000 miles in it without any problem.

I also bought myself a new smartphone, Vodafone Smart Ultra 6. Very good phone for the money, it was 125 GBP, I think it's 99 GBP now. It has 5.5" 1920x1080 screen, 1.5 GHz octa core processor, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB storage, 13 & 5 MP cameras, NFC.

Also some other things happened like going to some car meets and events, test driving 1999 BMW 325i and 2007 Chevrolet Captiva. Also I'm playing in Inline Hockey Ireland league now.

What have I missed over here?

It's a Niva; it is made to go through ditches. That crash-avoidance system is a safety feature...

Finally got the oil and filter changed in the Saab and made a start to removing the tree sap from the bonnet, think I've got about 2/3rds of it off now...takes about five or ten minutes per spot. Talk about tedious.

Took her out for a quick test run after the oil was done and just about to turn into the drive, when *ping* goes my seat, and my rear end dropped by about an inch...rear of the driver's seat base has collapsed. Will investigate that tomorrow. There's always something isn't there...

Dropped by my local garage planning to book the Xantia in for its MOT, and they had a free slot there and then so just had the test done.

17 year old 200K mile car in for a test with zero prep work (or even a check over!), straight through without even an advisory. I'll take that as a result I reckon and a sign that I'm doing something right maintenance wise.

...shed a little tear when I looked at the Niva-shaped hole in my garage...

I know that feeling only too well. Fingers crossed you end up with another one someday.

Still miss my Niva. One of the cars I regret selling the most, despite it making sense at the time (I was commuting 70 plus miles a day to college and it was actually costing me more in fuel than my income was at the time!).
