Ignored everything that needs to be done in the house. The sun is out!
Managed to single-handedly pull the engine out of my SM610S ready to pop the "new" one in before the urge to sit down and have a beer called a halt to work. Oh well...

the bolt also seems to have broken the rings that hold the cv boot on, so now i get to find some hose clamps large enough to hold it on

Figured out where the Skoda's exhaust is blowing from. Thought it was odd that it was still so damn loud despite the fact that the only hole I could find in the silencer was patched.

Idiot...I'd never looked at the manifold-silencer joint had I. It's blowing there! Looks like the nuts have either worked loose or never been tightened properly. Once I figure out what on earth size they are, I'll try to sort that out. Looks to be about 11.5mm...11 is too small, 12 is too big, and a 7/16" is too small as well, and I thought that was the imperial size between the two! They're in perfect condition for a change...just that none of my spanners fit!

Also failed to track down which corner the rumbly wheelbearingy noise is coming from, need to investigate that in more detail in due course. Will probably pull the front ones off, check, regrease them and reassemble/adjust anyway just to rule them out. Assuming the brake calipers don't put up a fight I don't recall it being that hard to get in to the fronts. ...Rear ones I can't remember, but I seem to recall it being a lot more involved, so crossing my fingers it's coming from the front...

was pretty depressed the shop was closed with my niva inside, didnt get to finish the suspension or take it out today.

in other bad news, the left rear strut mount is half broken and bent, its still attached at the rear half of the mount. easy fix, just need a hammer some scrap steel plate and the welder.

Looked more closely at the nuts on the exhaust manifold joint on the Skoda, they're not actually in any where near as good condition as I thought. They're also some oddball size (looks like 3/16" Whitworth if my micrometers are reading right and the old conversion table I had is correct!) which doesn't help.

Even if I *can* find the right size socket to go on there, doesn't really look as though there's enough metal left to get hold of. Grrr...This is going to turn into a headache isn't it...

Bought a head for my twin cam (thanks rob-o). It is damaged, BUT it has had the Guy Croft treatment in its past.

Along with the Solex C40PHH2 side draughts it should be amusing...

Spent the first two hours extracting emails from last year for an investigation.
Then before I finished that had to fix the email scanning servers followed by two hours on the phone to the the support people and then two engineers arrived to look at one of the HP 5500 UPS in the machine room that has a battery fault.
Before I knew it, was 15:30 and dinner time!
Regards.
