Surprises at the MOT station

Post by Zelandeth » Sat Apr 21, 2007 2:00 am

...of the good kind!

Some of you may remember me picking up a slightly scruffy around the edges looking Corsa as shortish term transport a while back.

Turns out it was a good idea...much to my surprise, she just sailed through the MOT without even needing a bulb changed! I've never had a car do that before...ever! Never mind a 14 year old 140K mile Corsa...which had no prep work done.

So...somewhat to my surprise, Vauxhall's dirty little secret lives to fight another day, and goes on to terrify (and confuse) more Fiestas, saxos, 106's and other small cars which by all rights shoud leave it standing in their dust. ...While still returning an average of 65mpg.

Have to admit, once I get back into a "real" car...both the economy and the turbo will be missed! As will the handling and unexpectedly effective brakes actually.

...The oil filter on the other hand will NOT. That thing is an absolute pain in the tail to change...I'm positive that they don't take the radiator expansion tank out to get to it in the dealerships...and heaven forbid I ever have to touch the fuel pump...

Looks a bit better now that it's been de-pinkified though!

Corsa - my favourite car to MOT, just watch out for the park brake cable on the trailling arm ends, tends to corrode and snap.

I've only ever had one car pass its MOT, it was a Peugeot 405 GLDT. Irony is I was gonna sell it whether it passed or not!

It's on my drive if anyone wants to purchase it, my 'new' car (Lada Riva :D ) forces sale!

Regards

Clare

Mine passed today as well. Well, when i say passed it failed on wiper blades but they changed them and then got my ticket. I did get a list of 8 advisory's
most of them covering the MOT mans back.

"8 advisory's most of them covering the MOT mans back"... careful, they are for your information and to stop stroppy customers jumping up and down when something goes wrong and attempting to pin it on us testers saying it's 'just' been mot'd. Remember you never used to recieve advisories.

I know they are for my info and i will get them sorted.
The only advisories I used to get where verbal ones.
I disagree with a couple of them, but none the less i shall double check and repair/replace whats needed, if not for anything more than piece of mind.
Regards.

Hmm, my advisorys were that the handbrake only just passed (it holds perfectly fine as far as I can tell...even on the steepest road in Aberdeen...until it don't hold on there, I'm not going to upset it), and that there's a small hole in the middle exhaust section.

...not any more there's not, there's a stinking great hole in the middle section where it turns up over the back axle. Not that I'd have known from the noise...don't reckon the back box on this thing actually does anything useful! Will see what I can do to solve that this weekend. Sure I've got some 1.5" diameter tubing rattling around somewhere...

Still shiny though!

Second MOT!!! You were still trundling about in the 1.6 when I joined the forum, hardly seems like yesterday you got the new one. I'm getting old! :?
