Petition to reinstate rolling window for Tax exemption

Post by Hannesb » Tue Sep 10, 2013 6:27 pm

Hi all

Snappy title, I know, but this is a good cause. There is a petition out there to get the 25 year rolling window for "classic" cars reinstated rather than the current pre 1st of January 1973 system. This will benefit many of the members of this Forum and is quick and fairly painless to sign.

If you are interested, please go to http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/39906 to sign this. It will ask for an e-mail address, but it seems to be legitimate and I have not had any unwanted e-mails since I signed this.

I do not know who actually started the petition, but thank you all for your support.

Regards
Hannesb

Popped up on another forum I'm on yesterday, so already signed.

Would definitely be nice as the Saab would come under that as of next May, and save me £224 a year!

Very much doubt it'll go through though, too much of a highly convenient cash cow at the moment.

I think they might make a rolling 40 year window. After moving it from '73 to '74 last year lets see if they announce another year.

Good point nitro. I heard rumours of it changing to 1974 but I couldn't find any confirmation anywhere. I think 25 years is optimistic myself; 30 would be nice, but 40 seems far more feasible.

Well I got excited when Osborne announced it because by VW type 3 is a late '73 and so not exempt but the change means it in theory now is, probably adds a couple hundred on to the value too! It seemed a legit thing when I looked it up then.
Also got me looking for cars on Ebay with just 1974 as a search term with the idea I could preemptively purchase cars that were going to become tax exempt. Of course merely idle dreaming but it was a good way to pass an evening, lots of good stuff cropped up!
