Don't know Gadget, the little Seat must be pretty rare these days. Sorry...can't remember the model name off the top of my head.

No photos sadly, but saw a load of vintage commercials heading north out of Aberdeen yesterday afternoon. Reckon there must be something on up north this weekend.

At first glance I thought that was a Tatra, but then spotted the badge on the boot! Is it owned by someone famous?

Nice to see one of them out and about, see them quite frequently (relatively!) around Aberdeen.

Two notable spots this week, a bright yellow, immaculate looking (80s) W plate VW Jetta. I was in the Estelle at the time, and we exchanged waves and a flash of the headlights, so that was quite satisfying.

Other one was a G plate Vauxhall Astra GTE Convertible parked up in Halfords car park. Can't remember the last time I saw one of them.

Spotted a dark blue 1974 Volvo 144 in immaculate condition. Unfortunately no photo.

Looks like that Riva could do with a new offside front wing, good to see one out and about though.

Only spot I have from the last week is from last Sunday when I was overtaken by a rather tidy looking B plate Vauxhall Monza on the M73 heading south. Can't remember the last time I saw one of them, must be a rare car now.

Late 70s/early 80s SL class Merc spotted in the health centre car park in Kidlington this afternoon. Looked immaculate, nice colour of gold for the car too.

Really do like Mercs from that era, would love to have one one day. Maybe after the Saab?

Got overtaken (and nearly deafened) by a mid 70s Pontiac Trans-Am (in the correct paint scheme of black with the gold eagle on the bonnet and gold detailing) today on the dual carriageway between Kidlington and Headington. Looked immaculate.

Still want one!

Spotted today. G plate Hyundai Pony round the back of the Kidlington Garage. 701 miles on the clock. Not been around the clock either...

Here's mine from when I was out for a walk yesterday.

Let's face it - this is right down the right street for this forum isn't it - we're all people who have a soft spot for the ugly ducklings of the motoring world aren't we? Or we wouldn't love our Ladas and such.

Proton were aiming at a very similar market in the 80s and 90s weren't they?

Spotted this 1.5GL Aeroback and immediately had a huge fit of nostalgia.

Image

An almost identical, G plate gold 1.5GL Aeroback was one of my very first cars when I started learning to drive, and to be honest I miss it.

Okay, so not the most exciting thing in the world but it was pretty comfy, surprisingly quick and never put a foot wrong when I had it. Guy I sold it to ran it for another five years or so after I sold it too I believe.

Our loan car at the garage for many a year was an L plate 1.3MPi and while notably tinnier than my older one proved to be utterly bomb proof the whole time we had it - even despite the beating that it took being the loaner!

I actually quite like the look of them as well to be honest. Despite being a bit rough around the edges, that one actually looks to be reasonably solid (though I do wonder what the cladding on the bottom of the doors might hide), if in desperate, desperate need of some polish!

If I wasn't in such a crazy position right now, I honestly might have been tempted to make a cheeky offer if I found the owner...Reckon with a decent polish and a tidy up that could make a good Retromobile.

...As soon as I disconnect the buzzer which goes off if you insert the ignition key with the driver's door open anyway. That drove me batty on mine!

Now that brings back memories. When they first appeared I was at school doing my GCSE's. One of the projects we had to do was franchising (Business studies) This was at the same time as proton advertised in the daily papers for possible Franchisee's in the uk.

So while everyone else did their projects on the likes of McYuk and KFC, I was the only one that did a report on a car dealer franchise.......and got extra points for being different.

Sounds like the sort of thing I would have looked at!

More I think about it, the more the idea of picking something like a Proton up at some point appeals to me. You just never see them now!

This was yesterday's spot, outside Halfords in Banbury. Little Fiesta MkII Popular. No 1.1 badging tends to suggest that it's the 950cc version.

Image

My parents had one almost identical but in maroon for a couple of weeks back in the early 90s - it was slower than an arthritic snail! Was abruptly swapped for a Nissan Cherry 1.3SGL Maxima which by contrast was anything but sluggish - well, until the head gasket went anyway...

There seem to be a lot of 70s/80s classics around Banbury! About a minute after taking that photo I spotted an 80s era Capri painted like the General Lee as well, though I was driving at the time so no photos of that! Have also seen a couple of P6s, a G plate Sierra Estate and this morning a B plate 2CV and 70s Beetle in convoy. Again, driving so no photos.
