How does this work then?
Obviously you sell your number plate (!) but how does the car you've sold the number plate off go on from there?

As I understand it the vehicle with the number plate in question must be taxed. The vehicle it's being transfered to must be taxed as well. The number is transfered to the new owner's vehicle and you are then issued with a new reg.
I'm told it's considerably easier to get a broker to do it for you.

brokers always take cuts, have bad history with brokers. Go to your local dvla office. I sold my subaru outback H6 a year ago and put my plate on retention. Paid an additional £150? for a 3 year retention on top of transfer fees. Old plates then went back on car. Ebay does have plates for sale. As with anything people are always out to take money from you so just be clear what exactly you are trying to do so you get proper answers back.
