I didn't know you'd checked the heads

A long shot. Would you see the slipped liners with something like this?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-ENDOSCOPE-BOR ... 4aa7be9888

and poke it into each cylinder?
Regards.

There are two problems with that .....

1. Most of the low cost endoscopes have a 14mm head which won't find a standard plug 'ole (14mm diameter to thread depth)

2. When you get one that fits you then have to turn the head at 90 degrees immediately. This isn't possible.

Believe me .... I've researched/diagnosed/scratched my backside thoroughly with this one John but I appreciate the suggestions.

ah well. Out with the spanners and out with the engine....Could you see the liners by removing the sump?

Just chucking ideas into the mix with some thinking outside the box :-)

I'm not worried about the current engine and its pesky liners. I have a new low mileage short block that I'll rebuild on the bench first and then do a transplant job.

Gonna try the Steel Seal first though.

Go for it then.
I tried K-Seal in the Landy and it stopped the leak for 2 months and then it started leaking again, so I ended up with a new head....£1200+ :-(

Oops!

As I said before - I know exactly where I stand with this engine so I've got nothing to lose.

and the £1200 didnt include the rest of the work!

as you've said, nothing to lose.

What you going to do with the old engine, rebuild or turn into a coffee table for the new office with some lighting in each cylinder?
Regards.

That's an idea John. It's a beautiful casting and it has a perfectly flat and square cast sump too.

Little motor on the starter ring to make the pistons go up and down.

I like that idea.

Stop by your nearest toyota dealer.. ask them for a few litters of their Pink coolant...when leaking ill turn solid and bright pink...usually pretty easy to see

There's already "Pink" coolant (OAT) in it.

Nice.....I tried(the garage) some aircon leak detecting fluid in the coolant system on the Landy to try and trace the leak, but it was internal.
Does this SS stuff glow under UV light ?
Regards.
