Just DVD:Rip. Lets me basically just dial in the desired file size and tick the box if I need stuff deinterlaced. It's dead simple which I like!

To be honest if it wasn't for the obsession with making devices without optical drives we wouldn't need to be doing this!

My laptop doesn't have an optical drive even though it's big enough (it has a 15.6" screen) and I have never thought to myself "I wish I had one". I'd use a CD once in a blue moon and I have access to a USB DVD drive, so it doesn't bother me at all.

I have decided on my next car, and I can't wait to get it. This is the engine I want to get it with; I wonder if you can guess the car.

1,781 cc (108.7 cu in) 110 kW (150 PS; 148 hp) @ 5700 rpm 210 N·m (150 lb·ft) @ 1750–4600 rpm

Today I mostly...

Dropped in on an electronics orientated car boot sale. Will definitely be heading back there in future to get rid of some of the stuff I have no use for but falls under the heading of "of no real value but too rare or nice to throw out."

Did walk away with an Avo 8 Mk III meter (had been meaning to get one for ages and this cost me all of three quid), nine hour meters and a segment from the JumboTron which used to be used at Picadilly Circus some years back. No idea what I will do with it...but it was free and seemed far too cool a thing not to grab. May have to figure out how to manage comms with it and see if I could use it as a display of some sort. Not sure what the resolution is though...

Will definitely need to track down what language it talks and see if I can figure out some way to talk to it. Test patterns it runs include some scrolling text which tend to suggest that it might have some built in character decoding ability.

I seem to recall that I've got a dev board floating around somewhere with a reasonably powerful FPGA on it. If I can figure out how to talk to the thing and find said board, could have a fun toy to mess around with.

Spent a couple of hours in the pouring rain clearing parts of the jungle/garden.

Bought two new batteries for father in laws mobility scooter

Investigated substantial dent in one of the garage doors caused by wayward air rifle shot yesterday....

Sorted out wi-fi in the garage.
