Ordered a bunch of service items for the Saab.

Uploaded something to Flickr, and have discovered that in addition to the new interface being utterly infuriating (why does EVERYTHING suddenly feel the need to look like Windows 8?) they appear to have also slowed the site to an absolute crawl.

Fact that it was simple and pretty quick was always one of the big draws to me!

If they don't get it sorted out, I may very well need to consider moving elsewhere, though that would be a pain in itself given that half the reason I set up shop there was that a lot of folks are there who share my interests, so it made sense.

Wired up a manual override switch to allow me to turn on the cooling fan in the Saab at will, rather than waiting for it to get to 2/3rds of the way up the gauge before doing anything. Having the ability to just hit the button as soon as you stop in traffic seems far more sensible I think, especially with it being an auto that ends up with it dumping a lot of heat from the torque converter as soon as you stop, especially if in stop/start traffic.

Image

Relay is just one I had rattling around in the parts box, and the contacts are just directly across the thermoswitch. Hot supply for the coil is from the hot side of the thermoswitch, and the ground to the coil is switched. It's a bit of a bodge not giving it its own supply, but works perfectly and saves on the amount of spaghetti that I need to add to the engine bay, which I dislike doing if I can avoid it. I may either re-wire this in black or sleeve the wires heading into the cabin as I don't like having messy wires like that which stick out like a sore thumb.

The original contacts to the thermoswitch are still in circuit - so it will still work as normal irrespective of whether I switch the fan on or not. I know too many people who have set up a manual fan switch in the place of the original one, and have then boiled their engines by forgetting to turn the fan on! So the settings I have are basically "Auto" or "on" - there's no off unless the coolant is less than whatever the trigger temperature is. Also means that if the relay were to fail that the fan would still work as normal.

Switching is done via the previously function-less "Extra" button.

Think sitting in traffic will be slightly less nerve wracking now!

Spent most of the week at Bramham Horse trials, cracking weather. Took 1100 pictures on the DSLR, now time to download them and sort out the camping gear.
Made it into the Yorkshire post, well, half of me did.

Returned via Derby to collect a full length roof rack for the 110
Regards.

This evening I mostly...

Unearthed my workstation!

Image

Only took me three and a half hours.

I give it a week before it's buried again! Had almost forgotten what it was like to be able to actually get to the keyboard and not have to hunt for the mouse.

That is an 8-track (recorder at that), and it does get used. There's a story behind the pony, which I am blaming my other half for, especially as they're the one who bought it.

To be fair though, it's far from the weirdest thing in the room!

Oh, there be dragons all over this place. I am not even going to try to count them. There are also a heap in boxes in the loft at my parents place as well because there's nowhere to put them here. Makes dusting an absolute nightmare. Despite the fact that I have *tried* to keep them reasonably localised here because this flat is about the size of a shoe box even with out my clutter.

This afternoon I mostly...

Changed the distributor cap, rotor arm and HT leads in the Saab. Plugs were checked last weekend and still look perfect so they can stay for a while yet. Only got 8 months or so on them anyway.

Oil change that was meant to happen at the weekend never happened because the idiot behind the keyboard here bought the wrong oil. Oops. Guess I'll be doing that *next* weekend then.

Spent the last two days in our server room with a consultant, setting and deploying a solution for BYOD (Bring your own devices) using either Apple or Android devices. Essentially, this allows you to use your own Ipad/tablet and get email and access to certain internal web applications via a secure environment.
More of the same tomorrow but tidying up the server and securing!
Regards.

Holy macaroni. I don't know what to say.

For a second I thought it was an over-inflated Niva. :D
