Called for the big truck with the flashing lights, and the clutch slave cylinder broke again, thankfully i was already booked into mates garage, as i was planning on using a ramp to change my UJ near the donut. Also going back tomorrow to get the damn UJ out of the donut, as walked away from it today, after swearing a bit and deciding not to attack it with a large hammer....

In better news, put 20p in a fruit machine, and got £3 out

Changed the thermostat in the Saab. Yay! I have a working heater now!

Time taken to actually change it: 8 minutes.

Time spent wandering around in circles trying to find a 12mm socket and a ratchet: About 3/4 an hour.

Well, last night got a text at 22:40 of a mate in his Mitsi L200..I need a jump start and broken down in a garage forecourt.

Crawled out of bed, got ready and went to help. Jump started OK, but the multimeter was showing 12.5v (not too bad) and then dropped down to 8v. Then engine cut out.
Hooked up jump leads again (gotta love front mounted Anderson plugs) and left the leads on to put some volts back in and with the multimeter hooked up, when cranking the voltage dropped to 6v...

Knackered battery or Alty.? My money is on the alty.

Been driven up the wall by a Windows 98 SE machine. Refusing point blank to let me add a protocol stack or a service to the networking side of things.
Tried two NICs (realtek 8139) and various drivers. Next will be a 3c905b NIC if if I can find the pesky drivers for it. Then I can have the fun of getting USB drivers installed...and above all its a TIME badged machine.....

You didn't waste much time in getting your Pi powered up. Debian OS?

Santa brought, among other bits and pieces that were relatively expected, an Eko Ranger Vintage XII guitar.

That was a complete and total bolt from the blue from my family, who are truly wonderful people and did an astonishingly good job of keeping that a secret.

Also some random lighting geekery that I was equally surprised to find. Most of the gifts to them have been an absolute truck load of games, movies and books. Think I've come out very much in credit this year though...will need to remember this next year and come up with some more elaborate plans for payback...

Oh, and everyone has been playing with the Tetris lamp all day as well...

Image

Pieces light up when set on top of each other, power goes into the blue one alone then feeds through the metal outer edges to the others.

I'm liking the sound of your Pi, I was thinking of getting one but I have a feeling it would end up as a paperweight. I was going to try to get to one of the raspberry jams next time they have one in Cambridge to get some help. Their website and forum seemed quite good from a novice point of view. Keep us updated..............

:) :) I like the ideology behind it, it will be interesting to see how far people can stretch it. It is supposed to be a teaching aid/learning tool for programing and I've read a lot of enthusiastic feedback but it's still to early to see how successful it will be. On the other hand if you know what you are doing you can hit the ground running and use it in all sorts of strange ways, which I think took the creators by some suprise. (I would be in the first catagory of people, hence still unbought due to new technology fear syndrome).

Keep us posted, I am genuinely interested to see how far you can take this, I think we should throw a challenge down to the other forum computer experts to see what use they can put one too.
