Today I mostly .....
Re: Today I mostly .....
have viewed your site many times - another good source of info thanks - was looking for the 1.7 drivers manual not the maintenance manual - ie what you would have got with the car when new. Seen 1.6 ones but not ones covering the later model with newer dash etc.
Re: Today I mostly .....
ok - thanks again. It was for that guidance as to what switch was ment to do what - but think I'm probably there now. 15 years since my last niva - which had different dash etc - funny how people dont remember what car someone had 5 years ago but everyone I know since getting this twin cam hussar clearly remembers my last niva from the comments I've been getting! cheers.

Spent the morning in work.
Then 3 hours in Ikea...Or as Gadgetboy prefers sanding his testicles with an angle-grinder.

Re: Today I mostly .....
went up to where the twin cam hussar is to look for missing fan switch wire - decided it was getting too dark for such activity so went for a quick spin - when light and dry now also have to look into why headlamps stopped working - dip is ok, a relay clicks into main beam but nothing from either lights or spots or dash blue bulb so decided to check fuse first - as have no book had to give up to refer to tinterweb for fuse numbers before looking for extra relays with loose wires etc. At least it gave me another chance to view suspension with a torch to contemplate lifts. At mo favour this combination of parts..

from german ebay with ball joint spacers from a local metal company that will do burnouts from drawings from baxters? site had downloaded few weeks back.
Am thinking of making some brackets to reuse the existing rear shock length like have seen advertised on complete kits from russia.
Anyone been able to buy these rear brackets seperately or got plans for?
that way can keep existing shock type and keep roll bars etc in situ and perhaps only cost less than £100 for a decent job that should be fairly simple to do?
or maybe not......
(neil assume link ok as its not a standard part and would come to you for ball joints/shocks and whatever else looks tired/gives up life on dis-assy, please let me know if thats wrong - thanks)

Re: Today I mostly .....
oops - the link was for a set or rubber moulded rings/spring lifts, with moulded in slots to hold springs in place, all in inc del for about £26 - got to be cheaper and easier than trying to make own.

Walked up to the top of beacon hill, near highclere castle then drove to Donington castle Newbury and walked up to see th beacon there as well before they get lit tonight as part of th diamond jubilee celebrations.
Should be able to see the one on top of beacon hill from my house.

Re: Today I mostly .....
Finally got around to fixing my server which has been down for the last few weeks following it running out of disc space. Well, that actually happened in the middle of March - but it kept running regardless until a few weeks ago when a reboot was forced by a power failure.
It runs on an ancient EeePC701 which only has 4Gb of harddrive space to play with, so it was always expected this would happen eventually.
Sanity was restored today when I dug out an old USB harddrive enclosure, stuffed an ancient 10 gig drive in there then set about reinstalling everything. Now seems to be up and running perfectly again, or at least will be once the DNS servers catch up.
While I was rummaging around in that corner I decided to increase the usefulness of the network storage by sticking an old 160 gig laptop drive in place of the 4 gig USB stick which had been plugged into the router for the last year or so. There are a bunch of machines in use around here so having a common dumping grounds to throw data at when moving between them is useful.

Looks a right mess at the moment, but I'll attack that bundle with cable ties later in the week to tidy it up. Jackets etc are now shifted to remain well clear of the router by the way which is the thing which gets by far the hottest in there.
I'd really like to stuff this whole lot in the cupboard underneath this shelf - but there's no way to get cables in without leaving the door open - and there's a howling gale that comes in there if you do that!

Re: Today I mostly .....
Oh, there's about 3Tb in total in this machine, the network drive really is just for when I need to shift something between machines and I'm too lazy to turn the place upside down looking for a USB stick or SD card. It's not necessary, is just handy from time to time.
The server is just there to hand out web pages, the whole site as it is just now is only a few hundred meg, so it lives a pretty lazy life.

Re: Today I mostly .....
The server also of course has access to the network drive - and I've got remote access to the server - so I can get access to it from anywhere. Handy at times.
It's all a bit of a bodge, but does what I ask of it surprisingly reliably - especially in light of it having cost me next to nothing.
The most unreliable bit is my ISP's connection which resets itself periodically and changes the IP address - I keep meaning to actually set up something to update it automatically, but keep forgetting. Only really becomes an issue if it changes when I'm on holiday!

Re: Today I mostly .....
True enough. Wish it was more predictable about the changes though!
Guess I should try just restarting the router once every couple of weeks and see if it remains stable between those instances properly...

Maybe a DynDNS service or use an ISP that gives a static IP as standard?

Washed the Saab.
...This might not sound momentous - but it means that the Saab actually was driven far enough to get TO the car wash without breaking down or threatening to break down. Furthest it's been driven since 2nd April when it broke down!
