Merc hunting refers to when I took the Landy to work covered in mud and parked it next to one of the clean shinning Merc that belonged to one of the project managers....The comment refereed to me not washing the car before bringing it to work and parking it in the car park.
So I left it dirty for the week

Must see you sometime about some tree sliders that follow the roof gutters. Just front to rear, then bolted through the roof onto the roll cage.

Changed the thermostat. On Sunday, coming off the lanes, I became convinced the Niva was running cooler than normal; in fact, a long downhill run on engine braking, resulted in the 'check engine' light coming on and the scanner indicating a faulty Lambda sensor amongst other things! And I'm positive that running cooler was what caused it.
A call to Neil on Monday, saw a new unit delivered today. Excellent service - thanks Neil!
The valve assembly in the old 'stat could be pushed open under finger pressure. This could not be done to the new one, which means I was right!
New one fitted and car now running fine.
Old 'stat lasted 8.5 years, which I reckon isn't too bad!

Yesterday was WRC time. So spent the day in a forest in North Wales. First victim was a transit van driver that had slipped off the muddy/slippy/wet/gravel track and ended up with both N/S wheels in a small ditch.
Quick tug with a rope and a Land Rover soon had him out.
Then into stage. 1st car went past at 16:18 and then after that it was darkness and a blur of headlamps.

Its had a jet wash down at the local jet wash. Clumps of mud on the floor.
Now it needs a wash and a polish as well as a 2nd go on the underneath with a jetwash.

Today i found a set of GoodYear Wrangler LT245/75R16 that seem to fit almost perfectly on my lada.... the barely rub on the coil tower.... and the best ..... there free .. i may (very probably ) have to do a bit of trimming on the fenders...

fitted a set of spring and shock spacers to a friends new Jimny, and took it for a quick tester on some local lanes:
