Today I:
Got into work to find a page of email alerts - a whole server rack had failed and servers had rebooted, well some had some had what appeared to be dead PSU's. Unplugged the mains lead and re-plugged and server came back to life :-)

Ordered two new UPS's and management cards and ordered some 16amp Commando to IEC C19 cables (this type http://www.dcdi.co.uk/product/66/power- ... power-lead )
Regards.

Yesterday I had a go at getting my SPV M3100 to act as a webcam and I could view the image via a browser on another PC :-)

however, I made the mistake of watching the first few minutes with my 2 1/2 year old grand-daughter sitting on my knee.

She is now marching around chanting loudly "that's a name of a gate motherf@#ers "

I am gunna be in it soo deep when her mum picks her up in 20 minutes time ... ...

Today I mostly...stayed at home with the flu. Struggled my way through work yesterday just about, but felt even worse today so stayed put.

Achieved nothing useful whatsoever save for wandering around like a zombie and walking into walls and doors a few times. Oh, and pelting my flatmate with Nerf darts on a few occasions because it seemed like a good idea at the time. That happens most days though to be honest.

First time I've been sick in several years...had forgotten how unpleasant it is! Blarg...

Took delivery of a pallet of UPS batteries.
Replaced batteries in 4 UPS's. Its doesnt help when the batteries are in long trays and the batteries have swollen up.
Salvaged two 50amp Anderson connectors(cos they will be handy) as seen here http://www.powerwerx.com/anderson-power ... 0-amp.html

The engine works like a charm, body is ok, but the front wheel is ruining the excitement.. :/ It's dancing.. But the strange thing is, that wheel looks ok.. The tyre though is 12 years old (it will be replaced tommorow) and is already cracked all over the place.. It also stood for half a year, maybe it become more like egg than round. Will replace it tommorow and then we will see. I just fear that it's a fork problem..

On the Pink Niva theme...
From Baxter's website, you could have your pink Niva and get a couple of Black Bears to suit...

Today I mostly finally got my bike back into a functioning order.

Plenty to do to get it "sorted" - but it goes, stops and changes gear properly now.

[] New tyres as the current ones are (very!) badly perished, and with in the order of 100psi in there, that sounds like a recipe for bad news.
[] New brake cable and blocks for front brake (that hasn't worked since around 1997 or 98...).
[] New brake blocks for the rear because they're pretty worn.
[] New derailleur assembly for the back most likely as one of the springs broke about 15 years ago when it chewed up a stick and the chain tension is currently maintained by a bit of mangled wire coathanger. Actually works OK...buuut doesn't look clever, and does now and then ping out of place.
[] New crank bearing as there's a considerable amount of play in there and there has been for ages.
[] New front mud guard...don't think I need to explain why!
[] Probably a more appropriate looking seat...though that one is actually quite comfortable. That was a scrap-heap replacement for the original which fell apart many years ago.
[] May well throw a new chain on while I'm working on it given how heavy some of the rust on the current one is and how much of a fight some of the links put up when I was trying to un-seize them.

...Then some elbow grease and some fresh paint. Never going to get the pitting off the chrome on the wheels and such, but it should be presentable enough with a bit of work. Never going to be pretty...but I don't really mind. It's mine, it has sentimental value to a great extent, and still - in spite of all the things being wrong with it, when I took it out this evening for the first time after being stuck in a shed (which had started to collapse!) for over ten years, rode nicely.

Quite satisfying managing to get something that had been forgotten about for many years going again. Rather simpler than a car to work on too!

...Continued from where I left off yesterday when I ran out of daylight.

Bike now has new front and rear brake blocks, new brake cable on the front (which I need to shorten a bit - I over-estimated how much I needed by about a foot...oops) and had the brakes properly adjusted. Stops really rather well now - certainly better than it ever has in the time I've had it.

Remnants of old lights, trip computer, bodged pump holder, indicators, brake lights and countless cable ties all removed.

Then attacked it with the pressure washer, removing ten years of grime, dried oil, mud and other substances I'd rather not try to identify. Had forgotten the chainwheel was actually silver...Blasted an incredible amount of gunk out of the chain itself and the sprockets at the back, after that and some fresh oil it seems to run a lot smoother, no surprise really. All other bearings etc were treated after the wash of course.

Don't think the difference really comes through in the photo below compared to yesterday - it's rather more obvious in person!

No way it will fit in the back of the 107 however, so will need to wait until I've got the 306 or the Saab out there to bring it back into town. Get some new tyres on it, then I think a proper test run is in order.

Also did battle for another couple of hours with the Saab. Have come to the conclusion now that the fuel distributor pretty much has to be at fault now given that it seems to be running rich at idle but lean under load (when it feels like it) - and that virtually everything else has been checked, replaced and or tested by substitution save for the innards of the HT distributor and the fuel distributor itself. So...we'll see what happens when that's changed once I get hold of one.
