Today I mostly .....
Attacked both the Riva and the Cappuccino with the polish and wax.

(might not show up immediately - just had to reset the DNS redirection to my server...try again in the morning if that fails!).
They're both looking slightly less sorry for themselves now.

It does scrub up well! Unfortunately there are still quite a few holes I need to patch before it'll be MOT worthy - plus there's not actually a single panel on it which isn't dented! You can't really see how much of a state the wings are there either to be honest. Will look a fair bit better once the wheels are painted too I think, they're in a bit of a state at the moment as well.

Not much through the day...aside from watching the snooker, playing some, then tinkering with the Riva a bit in the evening...only stopping because it got dark.
Discovered why my Riva had refused to tickover smoothly since I got it, and why no matter how I adjusted the mixture, it refused to rev without black smoke...and it seemed sluggish...which I'd always just put down to it being a Lada, and that the valve clearances could do with adjusting.
...One of the vacuum hoses was connected in the wrong place, resulting in no vacuum to the advance/retard unit, and quite possibly to the second choke on the carb (or am I thinking of the Skoda 130's carb there?). Sorting this resulted in the idle speed jumping about 700rpm, which was quickly sorted...and suddenly blipping the throttle now results in a very aggressive bark from the carb and a very rapid pickup. Previously this had always caused a brief pause while the engine thought about it, then it would pick up in almost a non-turbo-diesel sort of rate.
Very brief test shows that the rate of acceleration has approximately doubled, and that the engine just generally feels far more "happy" than it had before ever since I got the car. I'd say that the performance now is about what you'd really expect from a car of that size...it feels pretty quick - which is what I've heard people say about the 1.5E Rivas, that they should be pretty brisk. ...Would be nice if this increased the fuel economy from the 25 odd mpg it was managing too.
Basically (assuming the attached image works...) Pipe A and Pipe 1 have been switched around. Not sure whether that should go to the top or bottom port on the carb...though I've since (as of about ten seconds ago) found the diagram of where the hoses are *meant* to go...which isn't entirely clear...and this appears to be completely and utterly wrong. *sigh* Will have another look tomorrow!

Is annoying to find that what you've just done is wrong...especially when it seems to work! This vacuum system truly is a dark art.
