Got the cover of the washing machine, got to the control board, and it looks like one of the ICs is a little black in one corner and the leg looks a bit discoloured. A couple of the SMC's look a little black as well.....

Choices.. Risk a new control board at £78 or buy a new machine........
Anyone breaking a Hotpoint WMT03P washing machine????

Well....It appears the problem is solved...
Worn brushes on the motor side. The brushes where about 1/4" long.!!
New ones purchased for £14 and now installed and working :-)

Thanks for your assistance Martin. After swapping the brushes the machine seems faster and clothes feel dryer after a spin.
