Diesel and petrol prices in Norway :(

Post by Aman » Tue Mar 18, 2008 9:46 am

For years, Diesel has been the cheep fuel, Not any more. Yesterday the price was 12.49.- NOK for a liter of petrol, and 12.58.- NOK for diesel.

On top of that the annual tax for having a car in Norway (Called RoadTax, funny since we got the worst roads in all of Europe) is 3100.- NOK for a Diesel car and 2650.- NOK for a petrol car, and for diesels that have a NOX filter.

I am now 23 years old, and when i was 17 i got my first ATV, then the petrol was 6.97 at the lowest price, and the diesel was 1-2 NOK below that. How that for a price increase!!!

To compare, the LPG prise is 4.75 i think.

The UK tend to get shafted at every opportunity - seems we're not alone. I think we're taxed if we use cooking oil to run our cars - don't know about Norway though. Perhaps diesel engines and cooking oil will be the future and screw the tax. Tempting, if things get worse - which it probably will. :(

Good luck.

we've been 10c a litre more expensive for diesel for a few years now......
silly when it is much cheaper to manufacture diesel than petrol

but i guess with diesels being more economical than petrol, and more diesels on the road everyday, they're missing out on the extra tax at the pump,so have to make up for it some way...... :?

Petrol and Diesel prices here are ridiculous compared to US/European standards, but since Gifted Hugo is giving all of our precious money away to Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Ecuador and Argentina he can't help but stick his filthy hands into our pockets and bank accounts.

Glad he's on his way out... I only pray for he and his bunch not to squeeze the country dry just before they leave their cozy seats.

In the budget they said road tax wouldn't go up this year. I renewed my camper tax today and it had gone up from £180 to £185 for a year. Cheeky ******.

I feel slightly better now I've got that off my chest.

It's especially annoying as the camper is 29 years old, but not covered by the "25 year exemption" because the govornment don't accept a rolling cut-off date.

Got to get a tax exempt car next time!!!! I don't think there are any Lada's which qualify? If so, that's a shame.

Do other countries have free road tax for old cars???

The UK cutoff for free road tax is 1st January 1973. The 2101 started production in 1970 (according to Wikipedia). But exports to UK only started in 1974.

So to get a tax emept Lada I'd have to import a pre-73 one, with proof of age documentation. Which let's face it I couldn't be bothered to do!
