LADA NIVA

Post by A Lewis » Sat Apr 25, 2009 4:24 pm

Hi Guys n Gals

Im new to the forum so forgive me if the following question has already been answered several times before....

I understand that you can still buy new Lada Nivas - are there any UK agents importing them?

If so can you get RHD versions - Wikipedia claims that you can as some are still made for African RHD markets ??? ( I know wikipedia isnt exactly the most reliable of sources)

Any info gratefully received - I want to buy a Niva.

Ill either go for an older Niva for less than £1000 and keep my existing car or flog my car and buy a newer Niva with the cash raised

Cheers

Adam

Contact Alan Bird (site owner, number at top of page). As far as I'm aware, it's LHD only for the new ones, but driving over here doesn't represent any real problems (presuming you're UK?). Places to be careful are slip roads onto motorways and dual carriageways, and acute angled junctions.

RHD aren't available. As Hoodoo has already mentioned Alan, the esteemed host of this site, imports them and will supply UK registered.

Don't feel like a plonker. That's what the site is for - asking questions.

No flaming here.

I'd just like to point out that The Southa African's Lada Niva's in RHD, It was where I was looking at Importing from due to Aussie restrictions car's newer than 30 years gotta be converted within a year of ownership.

Looking roughly at 2000 - 3000 GBP with 50-120,000kms on the clock.

Found a few nice little examples below for ya mate, Gumtree has a few listed at the moment, some are dealers, which may be looking into?:

2003 Model, 73,0000kms on the clock, a bargain at Roughly 1500GBP.

Hello Adam and welcome to the forum. I live in Sweden and have taken many a LHD vehicle to the UK. Infact when I lived in the UK I had 2 LHD vehicles. AS Hoodoo said there are no real prob's with LHD just takes a little bit more concentration in the begining, especially to make sure you are not drifting to near to the center of the road. It can be a pain in the ??? when entering car parks and collecting a ticket from the dam ticket machine.
I bought a 2007 niva and it has been 2 years of trouble free motoring. I bought mine in Germany and got good service etc. I believe Alan asks abount £7000 if previous posts are correct (sure they are) and that seems to me to be a great price! Do let us know how you get on!!

LADA NIVA - Darn soon I hope!!!

Once again many many thanks for your kind replies

A friend advised me that its probably best to buy a second RHD model first, see how I get on, and if I get the Niva bug to then buy a brand new LHD model.

In the meantime im still looking out a decent Niva. Am lead to believe several african countries have RHD Rivas exported to them direct from Lada.ru - im waiting for official clarification on this (though that said if anyone would know Im sure Alan who owns this site would have found out by now) but will keep you posted just in case.

I'd be very surprised because you can't get any of the RHD specific parts anymore.

Africian Nivas are carb models and you wouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell of getting it to pass an emissions test.

The other one he lists (the 2003) is an injected 1.7. But I believe they stopped importing them to SA, so no longer available new. Could be a good, if expensive, source of a later rhd Niva - but the drive home would be one hell of an adventure... :)

I would urge every member on this forum to petition AvtoVaz, by letter or E-mail, to seriously consider re-introducing a R.H.D. version of the Niva. I`ve already done it - but they need to here the voice in numbers. There is a huge market out there - plenty of countries that still drive on the left hand side of the road. With good promotion, and an inexpensive price tag, I believe the Niva would sell remarkably well - especially at a time when the whole world is going through a prolonged economic recession. Get busy, lads. :)

 I vote Andy. Now go see the bank, Tell em your plan, your taking over the Aussie 4WD Market with a low cost, economic, go anywhere, easy to fix Mean machine, problems that the old ones had fixed (As you will fly there and speak to the russian's and tell them exactly what we want and need in our country, Of course they'll have to keep QC up to the highest level for the new export market, there trying to impress.)

Get em to send, 2 door's, 4 Door's and a few utes with a decent load capacity in the back (For the tradies on a budget, which is nearly all of em now, due to lack of work).

Our market would want flash looking wheels (like th BWA's) and decent sized and branded tyres.
