Lada Hussar 1.7i

Post by elan » Thu Sep 25, 2008 12:04 pm

I think the time has come to part with my car. 40000mls no rust to speak of ,everything works OK although the diff lock is very stiff so I haven't forced it. Cossack alloys with 95% branded tyres. mot til next year, all in all possibly the best pea green Lada in the UK. A bargain at £650.
Tel. 07788 582050. Car in Durham
I will sort something our re. photos if needed.

Yup.. on checking old posts I came upon a 'Lada Wanted' post from last month. The rest as they say is history.

It really is a cracking car.

Nice forum member seems to have taken me for a ride.......

Post by SteveTelford » Wed Feb 11, 2009 11:00 am

Have tried the nice private route - but with no reply - so heres the public version!

As per thread purchased this vehicle from 'Elan' - and on delivery noted that it did not have the wheel lock nut in the vehicle - he claims it did - but failed to understand why I would claim it did not if it did (?)

I ask Elan to take another look around - no reply - and I forget to chase - that is until I get a flat tire - so I chase again - no reply........

I imagined purchasing a vehicle of the forum that there would be some 'integrity' amongst Lada owners - alas Elan has proven me wrong.

I now have a car with lock nuts and a flat - short of drilling them out - anyone any ideas of how to deal with this ? (god knows why you would put lock nuts on a lada wheel anyway) - open to ANY suggestions
Cheers
Steve

If the locknut is of the four lobe type (typically standard for the alloys fitted to the Nivas) then maybe you could try a piece of flat bar that fits snugly across two of the lobes and use a decent adjustable spanner on it?
I have quite a few spare wheel nuts somewhere so if you manage to get the locking ones off give us a shout and I will post some to you.
Hope you get it sorted without too much hassle.
If it doesn't work - hit it with a hammer. If that doesn't work get a bigger hammer.

If your handy with a welder could you weld a nut to it and then spanner it off?
Just on the off chance, its not in the glove box, under a seat etc?

turned the car upside down

....lots of dust fell out but no wheel lock nut - so far the welding a nut to the lock nut seems like the easiest route - hadnt thought of that - nice one.....

Welding a nut on does work - did that to daughters Pug 307 that had rounded off lugs on the locking wheelnuts.

Best not let Baz Baz hear that you are welding on your Lada (long story, but quite entertaining regarding safeguarding electrical systems - alty in particular)

I think that something as petty as a missing $8 locking wheel nut socket is really anything to get all up in arms about... "Integrity amongst... BLAH BLAH BLAH". Call a local tire shop and see if they could remove the locking nuts off for you for next to nothing.

Want a little help from friendly members? PM SimonAllen. I'm sure he might be local to your area.

Making much adoo about nothing.

....not sure I follow - up until the suggestion of welding a nut to the lock nut I was looking at having to drill them out - thats hardly a walk in the park (and as I dont have a welding kit the alternative is not much easier);

a) if you sell a vehicle and claim it has lock nuts supplied and it does not then in my view that is pretty p$*! poor behaviour
b) if you ignore the requests to see if you can find it - again ppp behaviour
c) I trusted this forum member and now I have the trouble of finding a solution because he lied about what he was supplying -ultimately my mistake for not driving up to Durham and simply taking his word - but does not change the fact that he misrepresented what he was selling.

...Whilst I am the with the inconvenience - if nothing else next time 'Elan' seeks to sell a Lada on the forum any potential buyer will be wise to give it a wide birth......or drive up to Durham to confirm what he is claiming
