Looking for 2101 family

Hello all, fairly new to this forum but I have long been attracted by the history of the Lada. I'm looking to buy one of the old 70s classics, basically anything in the family of the AutoVAZ 2101(1,3). Firstly, I'd be grateful if someone could get back to me on how much I'd be expected to pay for it (wouldn't mind in poor condition as I'd like to renovate myself), where on earth I could get one from (Importing from Russia is an option) and in the unlikely event that someone on this forum wants to get rid of theirs, I'd be very interested.

hmmm thats a hard one, Firstly I wouldn't trust anyone from the former USSR they will most likely take your money and you will never see your car

Your best bet would probably be e*ay

There are (some) reputable traders in the big land out east. Did you try contacting Alan (phone is better than e-mail.... number up top left of the page) as he might be able to give you some importing info as he imports vehicles as well.

Thanks for your help guys, I think I will ask Alan if he would kindly put me in contact with some comrades from the East. I speak Russian at a basic level, but can get by, so hopefully that will help, especially if there are reputable traders out there. I so desperately want a 2101 as a piece of history it's worth weeks upon weeks of waged work. I was over in Ukraine, Moldova and Transnistria (don't ask) a couple of weeks ago and if anything that's just made me want one more.

I'll see how things look on this post after a week or so, and if I get no luck, i might have to pester Alan.

you can easily buy a 2101 in ukraine ,, or hungary even easier,, as it is in eu,, i have contacts in both places,, also i have contacts in latvia in the motor trade,, if a left hooker is not a problem i would try either hungary or baltic first,, and no serious value on them there at all yet,, depending on condition u could drive or trailer it back,, but if u bide ur time u can find a good un,, want me to ask my friends?????? then if u need parts for a 2101 go to the autobazzars in ukraine and fill a van,, everything from engines to panels to switchgear,,,, or who knows ,, that treasure trove of stuff that was on e bay may be full of 2101 stuff,,

Thanks for all your help guys, from what I presumed to be a dosey forum there's been loads of replies! Hoverfrog, thanks for those sites, logistically, I would rather drive down to france for a day with a trailer than across the continent, so that's one plan. But if you can get one in driveable quality from Hungary I'd Imagine like you said that would be cheaper. I've driven from Torquay to Poland before in 11 hours, and Hungary is probably just a bit further away so I'd only need to spend one night on the continent really.

I'm really looking for a lada in 6 months time or so, as I thought 2101s would be like gold dust, and I'd need to start early, but by the looks of it I'll have one on my hands sooner than I'd think. Infact I should have bought one back a few weeks ago to save the hassle when I was over there... oh well. But yeah, old skool racer I'd be really interested in your contacts, preferably in Hungary (less burocracy in the EU but I can't speak a flaming word of Hungarian) and I'd be willing to pay a nice commission also =).

sure thing,, no worries,, 2101 should still be quite easy,, u want standard or modified,,,, yes hungary is closer than latvia by far,, i drove there many times,, so left hand drive is no worries for you,, ok i will put the feelers out,,

it is,,???? untill u meet gadget on a bad hair day,, hoodoo after he fially gets stuck in some bog he cant get out of,,, (oh how i wait for that day,, lol ) lada and korean when he discovers down under is NOT as nice as being here in all this rain, avtovaz,,,, hmmmm after 1 too many engine changes, as for me,, im just not well in the head, u will notice i dissapear for short times,, well thats when i am in the BIG HOUSE,, with lovely soft walls,,
in short,, we are normal guys,
welcome to lada heaven,,, or hell..
btw,, the others are worse,, but they wont talk to me again if i say anything,, and i know i will need "expert" advise somewhere alng the line,,

I don't do getting stuck!!

I will admit that my forward progress is sometimes delayed, but never stuck.
Similarly I NEVER get lost! Occasionally slightly confused as to where exactly I am, but never lost!

Hehe, I'm sure there's no bog a Niva can't negotiate. Actually, that reminds me, I was going to ask someone on this forum because I have seen the Nivas in terms of popularity, and number of forum posts completely drown out all the other makes of cars...

What is it? Does everyone here love Nivas or something?

I personally prefer the smaller cars.

LOL the niva is consider a small car ( 4 seater ) and would be technically considered a russian version of the swiss army knife

they have been modded (professionally and not) to fit almost any automotive role

from Submarine to School bus it's been done.... Would like to see one slammed down to the weeds with a low rider roof.. Yeah BABY!!! C'mon pandaminum.. you had to have at least thought of it once

Hi Sam, the reason Nivas are so popular is that for the money there is no better stock 4x4, and i'm not just saying that, I know plenty of rival brand owners who would reluctantly say the same!
But don't worry, everyone loves the 2 wheel drives too! What's more all Ladas are mechanically pretty similar so you can be confident of sound advice from all quarters.
