FUEL LEAK INSIDE ENGINE BAY

Post by STORM 2 » Thu May 08, 2008 12:34 pm

Hi - finally got the car started after charging up the battery.
Noticed a fuel spray coming from the hose leading from the fuel pump to the carb. Quite a significant dripping of fuel actually.... I wouldn't like to see it ignite in there as its probably soaked everything underneath it.

SO - does anyone know where I can get a replacement hose - its a braided one of about a metre in length.
Is it a specific part or should I just go down to Halfords?

Many thanks

I believe the hose is a standard metric size. Something like 5mm internal diameter, but I can't remember exactly.

someone here will know.........

Halfords will probably do it, but your local motor factor needs your business more and will be far more helpful (sermon over). Make sure you buy proper fuel hose and not any old pipe.

While youre at it, replace the bit that joins the fuel pump to the bulkhead pipe (i.e. engine to car) as well.

P.S

The fabric braided hose you are replacing does not need to be replaced with similar braided hose. Good quality black rubber fuel hose is what you need, unless you are entering concours and want it to look original ;-).

Same goes for the cheap clips which hold the hose on - they need replacing with proper jubilee clips of the appriopriate size.

Maybe this topic is better off in the tech support area?
Or Alan Bird maybe able to supply the fuel hose.
Regards.

OK - replaced the fuel lines in the front- the rubber had perished quite badly .
For future reference they are about 7.5mm diameter.

Thanks for the help.
