Looks as though I'm going to have to sell my Samara guys. I just can't cope without power steering. I have arthritis and a back/shoulder problem, so driving is not exactly a pleasant experience. So, unless I can fit a power steering pump or something, she'll have to go. I'll also be on the lookout for something cheap with power steering.

I guess that means a no go for you getting a Niva then too.
Unless you go for the newer versions with PAS

I know. Is there no aftermarket kit? Its either that or dose up on painkillers before every drive!

Make sure your front tyres are nice and hard, add a few extra PSI to the recomended pressure.
Also i'm sure you don't already but don't dry steer...

I am sure that the Samara should be easier to steer than you say, follow Nitro's suggestion and increase tyre pressures slightly.
Isn't the Samara on rack and pinion steering?? or does it share the same steering mechanism as most of the other Ladas, with a steering box.

More than likely. The Russkies were wonderfully economic with parts.

I would say it probably is John
Using a sports steering wheel without having PAS is hard work, even coming down a couple of inches on diameter from standard will put quite a physical strain on you.

Its a possibility. Do you want to check with Alan B about the steering wheels fitting first?

Might be an idea. If I do decide to soldier on with the car, I'm going to need a bit of support on the tuning front. I'm close to breaking point with my carb. No matter what I do, the hot running is not right...... but I'll pursue this in another post..

Samara IS going up for sale , mostly due to not being able to afford to run 2 cars. And I hate to say it, but the Mazda is the wiser choice to keep for now. It will go for the best offer. I'll use Ebay and such but I'd like to give everyone here a chance first.
