1977 Lada in yellow on e bay

Post by Dexter33 » Sun Jul 28, 2013 3:50 pm

Looks like a nice car, yellow with twin lights and appears to be 66,000 miles. Love the interior. :D

I see just a weird Riva, 88 Cossak and a 86 (dakar?) Niva.

No, no yellow Lada 1500 that I can find on eBay and your name returns many people on Facebook none of which appear to be you.

I hate facebook and everything it stands for! :D

To be fair it was very badly listed and anyone looking under cars would not have seen it. A search of just lada Riva brings up alot to trawl through

Sounds like a buyer!! Certainly looks nice, love the interior. I hate FB but it allows me to keep in touch with all car club mates from different clubs etc.

Pretty certain I won't be buying it. Already have three plus it's very similar to my 1600 in style. If I do buy another it would be an old 1200 (2101).

I have emailed him asking if it's possible to view. Looks very tidy in the pictures.

That colour seems a bit odd, or maybe it's the wheels.

I went up to Kidderminster today and had a good look at the yellow Lada.

The chap selling it has only had it about six weeks. He saw it advertised locally in Kidderminster by the wife of the deceased owner. This owner had the car from new. The present owner is Italian and liked the sound of the Lada as he expected it to be like a Fiat 124 he owned years ago. He tells me he cannot get used to the heavy steering.

I have driven the car and I must say the steering is far heavier than any Lada I have driven previously. Whether it's the wrong pressure in the tyres or whether it needs a new steering box I don't know. Either way it's put this new owner off what is basically a lovely solid car.

All the panels are original and there is virtually no rust anywhere. The underside of the car is solid including all the box sections and floor. I went around the tops of the wings with a magnet and there is no filler anywhere. The paint on the wings is wearing in places and you can see through to the original undercoat. There is a very small amount of rust on the offside front wing which is only surface where something looks to have scratched the paint off.

The engine runs lovely and smooth and is quiet with no camshaft noise and the car pulls well. Clutch and gearbox all seem fine once you get used to the vague gear stick.

The starter motor turned over very slowly but the car fired up. The seller tells me the battery is flat. Could be true or it may have a lazy starter motor.

The interior of the car is in excellent condition. All original seats and door cards.

The seller wants £1,500 which is what it owes him. This includes the purchase price, new MOT and tax disc. He says he just wants his money back.

I personally loved the car, but I have three Ladas already and I can't take another one on. Anyone on here wanting a lovely clean early model would be delighted with this one for £1,500.

I could only find a few negatives: 1. Very heavy steering (even for a Lada). 2. Starter motor possibly needs replacing, but could be the battery. 3. The handbrake has been bent and is not engaging with the ratchet (easy fix). 4. Tops of wings paint worn thin showing undercoat.

In all this is a lovely original car. I hope someone here buys it and keeps it 'safe'.

Thanks Steve for the update, certainly gives food for thought with the assurance that someone has had a good look at it. Shame you don't have room, and its so far away from me! If I sold the Samara then I would have some room for it... :?
