Hi Zelandeth .... Yes, did take the Green 1200 to the Fraserburgh Rally...think you spoke to me then ?

Steve....your 1600ES is a really good-looking beast ! If ever for sale and still roadworthy, please do let me know.

Will put up a pic of my well-worn example whenever I can work out how to do it on here. I'm sure the German guy's museum will do a pretty good job of restoring mine, at least to static off-road standard.

Cheers all / David

Hi,

Sorry I'm getting into a habit of resurrecting old threads. I've been aware of these chaps buying rhd cars for a while and taking them to germany. I'm just interested in why they want rhd? There are so few of these cars left now it seems a shame that they are all leaving our shores when they could pick up any number of lhd cars from the former eastern bloc.

Or is it simply they want them because the rhd are more rare?

cheers

Ben

This happened years back when loads of early (1950s) RHD VW bugs and buses ended up in the States for there rarity/novelty value.
Most folks think its a one way thing from the States to the UK but we tend to import any old rubbish VW from them.
The more discerning buyer/collector in the States buy our rare cars.
All this is dependant on the fluctuating exchange rate, Our rare RHD Eastern Bloc cars look like a bargain to the Germans at the moment...
