Wouldn't mind trying that one day. Though the WA cops may have different ideas.
Looks like he's still using the standard niva diffs in this with just stiffening on the housing. Begs the question as to how much power can you put through a Niva diff / transfer case and it keep on going reliably? Being an old rotary owner I'd love to stuff either a 13B or 20B in the Niva (would be a darn sight easier to get down here than FIAT/Lancia bits), was always a bit sad that VAZ dropped their rotary program.
Did the Niva hawks run Niva diffs (i know they ran the same transfer case) or something else Andy?? It's been a while since I've seen one and I can't remember.

apparently they were stocker diffs when they were racing them (someone misfed info to me)
he was saying even those big niva marsh use stock diffs
new they were strong,but...........

Yeah its been a while, nothing's really broken on the old Niva for a while that I haven't been able to source from my deceased 1600, other than having to buy the last radiator from you a couple of months back.
Interesting to note that the hawks did use the standard diffs.
I agree that the C of G would be way too high and would put it into roll over territory and probably would end up being a dog to drive, still it would be hard to misplace it in the carpark. Was more interested in the engine conversion side of it, something other than a FIAT.
I know I'm going to get told here I should be stuffing a FIAT donk in but in OZ FIATs have only just started to be sold here again after a long, long absence, so no motor is going to be newish/ reasonable without a lot of work. Also, at least here in WA, you can't just shove a engine that was manufactured in say 1980 into a car produced in 1997. The cops will just not licence it. So you've got to look for something at least made in 1997 or newer. Vee block engines do interest me, but I just love the simplicity of a rotary, even though the plugs sit low in them.

you might have to have a chat with robin booth over there about fitting rear disc brakes (as he has fitted to his niva)
i think a 12a would probably suffice......

For all that it is an impressive piece of work, it would be a fun, if a little expensive, toy to have for doing the supermarket run. Although if it was lowered by about a foot I bet it would be pretty good offroad.
