Simon, Sounds much the same - there's very little left of this one now - just the valve and the ceramic electrical insulating block to which the wires are attached! The sleeve has seen better days from what I remember anyway, and was a pig to thread a new wire through due to a kink about halfway dow...

Removed about half a ton of assorted junk from the boot of the Riva so I could clean up the mess made by a bottle of antifreeze leaking all over the place a couple of weeks ago (it fell over, and the top smashed into about a million pieces when it hit the corner of the toolbox). Also bodged the knac...

Failed in locating the bits I need to get my welder working locally. So it looks like it'll have to be down to trawling the internet to see if I can find the bits I need. Got an old Sureweld Monomig 101, however it needs a new torch as the original one fell to bits (literally). Have been meaning to ...

1995 N Plate Riva 1.5E Saloon - eBay, T&T

eBay Link Not the best photography in the world, sounds like an honest enough car though - older owners who've not used it a huge amount, one tatty sill and the usual rusty wings. http://i.ebayimg.com/14/!B4tBcCw!mk~$(KGrHqIOKkIEyNeR-9w!BMq3,86,vw~~_12.JPG Afraid I'm nowhere even close to it, or I'...

This happened on my Skoda Estelle shortly before the alternator regulator packed in (no real problem as it was an external reg, and I had a spare one in the toolbox!). First thing that tipped me off on that occasion was that the battery light used to *very* dimly glow - only noticed because the dash...

Attempted to take my flatmate's Peugeot 306 (he's away on business) out for a run as requested - only to have the nearside rear wheel lock up solid halfway across the carpark. Initially thought something horrific had happened to the rear suspension given the way the back of the car dropped! No idea ...

Heh...Might as well be £25000-350000 at that price. Only reason I've got this is that it was obtained for free when it broke last time (duff convergance IC's - common and easily fixed fault). Imagine I'll find something - just a shame though, and annoyingly timed, meaning I won't have a working TV w...

Spent the evening dismantling my television which has picked this week to throw a fit - when I've got guests staying over the weekend! ...Even worse is that it looks as though the fault may well be effectively terminal. Need to get the screen and optics off the top of the blue CRT tomorrow to take a...

Took the Cappuccino on its first proper moderately long motorway run. Popped down to Perth for the day. Ran nicely there and back, averaged 47mpg too. Having more than enough power to just sit in 5th the whole way means that the economy does really improve on a steady run. I am however going to be h...

Applied several metres of duct tape to the windows and ceiling of our office in an attempt to make the place something resembling draught proof.

Winter, it appears has arrived.

Cleaned the Riva for the first time in goodness knows how long - it was turning green. Fixed the leaky offside rear door (plastic sheet inside had dropped off). Also cleaned out and undersealed the inside of the door while I was in there as there was a worrying amount of surface rust in there. Recko...

Had the Riva break down halfway through turning it around...Then spent a good 15 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong. ...Eventually realising that I'd run out of petrol. Idiot. Encountered a gent who'd broken down at the petrol station, engine really struggling to turn over in a rough lookin...

Picked up the garden chairs, bits of slate, guttering and other assorted bits of house that the first really strong winds of the year managed to detach from the house last night. Branch came down off one of the trees as well - managed to miss both my parents Peugeot 207 and my Riva by about an inch ...

Interesting, didn't realise that Ford were involved that far back!

Will get this demonstrated to me sometime shortly (as you can test the trip circuit apparently), and will check whether the engine management light does flash as it apparently should do.

Gadget - In this case this had killed power to the engine management system (and all high power systems in the car) stone dead. No warning lights whatsoever on the dashboard whatsoever I'm told. Resetting it restored complete normality, with no error codes recorded. I imagine there are a few variant...
