Re: Today I mostly .....

Zelandeth seems to be running an individual site here: http://loz.zelandeth.org/

As for the activity on this site generally, it seems to have hit a low, unfortunately. Perhaps resentment about russian aggression spills over? Let's remember that VAZ, and indeed Russia, is much better than Putin.

Re: Today I mostly .....

...restored an old dosimeter (geiger counter/radiation intensity meter) that had ceased to show decent values on the dial while the earphones crackled away merrily when the unit was presented with a test sample. The instrument itself proved to be shot, the moving coil showing no continuity. Finding ...

Re: Today I mostly .....

Enjoyed sunshine, a beer, and avoiding the smoke from the traditional bonfire.

Re: Today I mostly .....

...enjoyed proper spring weather, with temps touching on the 20°C mark, cloudless sky and almost no wind. Almost weird... but the forecast for next week mentions snow, again... So what better to do on a spring day, than do some "spring cleaning", burrowing through accumulated debris in the storage s...

Re: Today I mostly .....

... shoveled snow. We've had some 40 cm in the last 24 hours, and with the accompanying wind, chaos has ensued, of course. Public transportation has broken down and too many drivers today set their hope to ESP and ABS and whatever fancy systems their car has, and forget that driving actually require...

Re: Today I mostly .....

Well, most people seem to do mostly nothing, most days, nowadays... We took the Niva (as usual) for a "shopping round", obtaining firewood, food and drink, these things being instrumental to survival in a cottage, in the winter, in Sweden. We've had the car for 11 years and it has proven fairly "une...

Re: Today I mostly .....

Well, today I mostly didn't do much at all... scanned the amateur radio frequencies for ongoing conversations, regretted heavily that I didn't learn russian, polish or ukrainian (there is much to listen to in those languages at my place of living) and kept wondering/worrying about the general state ...

Re: Today I mostly .....

Re the gearchange: You could try to drive the car with the kickdown cable detached from the throttle linkage, simulating a low throttle setting. See if that makes any difference to the gearchange. If the cable has been slacked during your engine job, the internal hook-up may have been upset (cable n...

Re: Today I mostly .....

The cam lobes are normally very hard. The wear involves the cam followers, and they are also tempered to great hardness. I had a Citroën that had a small scar in one cam lobe, and that small imperfection caused the rocker arm cam follower "pad" to wear down totally within 2000 km (it was changed onc...

Re: Today I mostly .....

Nice quality stuff from HP in that era. I got an HP pocket calculator using RPN in 1975, buttons look exactly like the ones on your 12C. It had a red LED display. It stayed with me in working order until 1988, when it was stolen (!) from an unlocked car. I had to rebuild the battery pack somewhere i...

Re: Today I mostly .....

Yikes! You were lucky, I'd say... A somewhat similar thing happened to me many years ago. While I was approaching a slow lorry going in the innermost lane, the inner tyre on his left rear blew. Very little tyre debris reached my car, but I think every dust particle that had accumulated on the chassi...

Re: Today I mostly .....

Nice!

I've had two of these from the later generations, a 14 and a 19, if I remember correctly. They give a very pleasant ride!

Uncannily quick rise time may be connected with too little gas in the master sphere, but I'm sure you'd be going there soon anyway.

Good luck!

Re: Today I mostly .....

If the insulation on the HT leads are OK, it's not an issue, unless the capacitive or inductive coupling to the non-HT circuitry creates a problem. As for the temp meter, it shouldn't be a problem, it probably is a common-or-garden moving-coil meter, no sensitive electronics involved. However, on pr...

Re: Today I mostly .....

When I say oil, I mean of the WD40 type. I didn't know oil might be bad for the seals. I have applied the pressurised air. That freed a couple off, but didn't work so well on the calipers with leaking pipes. I will try heat if nothing else works, but I guess that is bad for the seals too. I do howe...

Re: Today I mostly .....

Oil?! Interesting. Anything but, I'd have thought, would be the preferred remedy. "Brake cleaner", antifreeze fluid, technical ethanol... even hot water and one of these tablets you'd use in a dishwasher machine. All with the thought that the seals in the brake system do not like lube oil and it may...
